It isn’t though mate.

The best spurs side in years was the 2016/2017 squad. Our squad has only gotten gradually worse since then.
Agreed. That midfield of Dembele and Wanyama was monstrous.

This midfield is comparatively gash. Winks can be great but he must be more positive and trust his ability. Dier is consistently a let down. Technically inept. Rash.and only good in a paceless game.

Sissoko is playing above himself but long term not the answer.

Gutted really but fair play to the lads out there for taking it down to the wire.

Knew the no away goals thing would end up being a thing, FFS.

Chelsea are definitely our cup nemesis at the mo.

Two more friggin injuries is the worst part, although one of them led to Danny Rose coming on and being immense.

C'est la vie.

Any semi final opponent is our cup nemesis.

I never ever expect to win a semi final. I don’t even allow myself to imagine it anymore!

Pleased with the second half performance...we dug in and competed.

Overall we did amazingly well to take it to penalties so am very please with the character the team showed.

In the end though... we ultimately don't have the quality or strength in depth to win trophies.

Winning trophies requires luck - how can you legislate for your top 3 goalscorers all out at once.

I’d take finishing top 4 all day over the mouse cup

Anyone who looks at this as a failure - is simply not paying attention to what is happening at the squad at this moment in time. We can barely put together 11 healthy bodies. Injuries piling up at the exact wrong time.
It's not luck or coincidence though. If your transfers are poor, you dont promote youth, you end up with an overplayed first XI and injuries.

To be fair, with the way things have gone for us this season I just don't feel like now is the time, so I can't really say I'm too upset. We've been so up against it with injuries that I just want us to maintain our league position and I'll be delighted. Anything else is a bonus.
Actually agree with this. Sad state to be in really, but top4 under these conditions is massive

These 'bottling' tags, which is infuriatingly infantile unfortunately is just becoming too synonymous with us.

We just can't get the 'big one' over the line against our contemporaries no matter what we fucking do.

I’ve been saying for a while that we’re simply not equipped to win trophies. You can see it every time we’re in a semi or any pressure cup tie- we find a way to lose. Admittedly we were a bit unlucky today.

I’m sure we will win trophies again but I’ve never felt that it will be this team that breaks our duck, and probably it will be under a different manager.
You can pretty much always put it down to not having that little extra to help see it through or change the game.

Redknapp era - we had a superb first 11 but struggled after that plus we were still mentally weak.

Poch era - the mentality is there but we run out of options when we chase and have been a bit naive at times.

If Poch had a solid 11 with 3-4 options of the bench that allowed us to change strategy then we may be able to question if he can actually win something but until then he's always at a disadvantage and it's always going to be tough as the other big teams are far better equipped

When everything goes against you, even something like changing the away goal rule, it is really very hard to not think we truly are cursed.

Had that away goal counting double since 1980 apparently.

Along with the CL qualification fiasco, finished 4th the year Chelsea won it. The only team in the whole of European football to ever be denied a CL spot because of that rule.

I don’t think any of us realistically thought we would win that shootout surely... Looking at the potential penalty takers only Eriksen i fancied to score.

Massive shame and i really find it hard to envisage us winning a cup.

This is also why I wanted us to win by at least a 2 goal margin in the first game, I know that it’s easier said than done but we should’ve go for it more in the first leg

Anyways what’s done is done

I enjoyed the first half hour of that second half immensely. Great effort.

The last 15 minutes we made it clear penalties were our aim. I’ve always hated teams who do that

From the moment Llorente came off for Moura it was very difficult. Llorente isn't great but at least he puts himself about. Moura didn't seem mentally or physically ready for a game like this.
