I've only seen a few YouTube clips. Mainly plays as a left winger but can play on the right wing. 20 years old, 5'8", quitty nippy, good ball control and surprisingly strong for his size which allows him to retain ball possession and even win quite a few tackles. Can shoot but pretty shocking at crosses. He'd be a useful cover for Bale or Lennon but not likely to displace them anytime soon. Probably a little better than Townsend, though I wouldn't pay more than £5M for him. Porto will probably want £20M and Levy's firstborn.

Good review of him. A tricky pacy player I would describe as an exciting player. This is player we want, as it is exciting. It is not a big name, but simply exciting. Not a signing like Allen, Downing, Henderson, etc....
Do you see the difference?
I hope you do.

Personally i'm not as excited by big name signings as signing players with potential who will go on to become big names. I think if a young player has an exceptional quality they are worth taking a chance on. Not all would come off but enough will to make it worthwhile. I e-mailed Damien Comolli that we should try to buy Eden Hazard when he was 16; I got a friendlly reply saying that he was on our radar etc. but obviously nothing came of it. You can make a lot of wrong calls if you are buying cheap which is often the top young talent from unfashionable nations. You won't get many bargains from Brazil or Spain but there's plenty to be found in Chile or Serbia or Senegal for example.

The quality I like about Atsu is his strength which is unusual in a winger who is only 5'8". He seems decent on the ball but needs to improve his crossing. I don't think he's a player we currently desperately need but he'd be a useful squad player who may develop into much more as Bale did. As I said above, it's all about price. Unfortunately Porto don't do bargains.

from Transfer Tavern
The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham manager, 34 year old Villas-Boas, is looking to establish his tactical formation of 4-3-3 as he looks to step up the North London’s hunt for a left winger.
The newspaper has suggested that the former Porto manager is looking at his former club ‘s left winger, 20 year old Christian Atsu, who was sent out on loan last season. He appeared in 30 games for Portuguese team Rio Ave where he scored 6 goals and assisted a further 4.
Another option which was suggested is Liverpool youngster RaheemSterling. The youngster played 25 minutes of Premier League action last season in 3 separate games. Of course this move would be pathetic. With Villas-Boas looking to implement his formation when the new season begins, it would be foolish to buy an inexperienced youngster when a first team is yet to be established. AVB has not purchased the natural left-winger or the world class striker he wants which he should prioritise first before looking at longer term options.
But Villas-Boas could make use of his natural talent to reposition his current players. Gareth Bale received criticism under Redknapp as he was constantly played out of position which weakened the areas which were not covered in a satisfactory manner.
For example, when he played on the left wing next to Adebayor, the left midfield was exploited as a result. Not only this, but with Bale playing in the left wing position, his main attributes of pace and crossing are not used to the full potential.
With this, it is evident that if AVB wants to play his 4-3-3 formation, he is going to need to buy an experienced and naturally suited left winger if he wants this formation to work at White Hart Lane in the forthcoming season.

Biggest load of BS I've read. Bale will be our starting left winger no matter what.

Though it would be hilarious to take Sterling from Liverpool.

Ex-Ghana striker Tony Yeboah believes Christian Atsu will fully develop his potential if he move to England.

The 20-year-old has emerged as tug of tussle between three English sides – Tottenhamn Hotspur, Everton and Liverpool after impressing heavily during a loan spell at Rio Ave last term.

The silky FC Porto winger continues to draw penty of admirers from afar with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas believed to be a huge admirer of the talented player who put up an eye catching display during Ghana’s opening 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zambia last month.

The former Ghana great is confident a move to England will help the player develop his career.

“I think England will be best suited for him. He can excel when he gets the chance to play for one of the sides,” Yeboah told Pravda Sports

“I don’t really know which teams are chasing him but given his talent, I have no doubt in my mind that he can make the mark there,”

“But from what I have heard the Tottenham manager wants him. If it is true, then that is one offer that he must consider seriously,”

“Because in this case, the coach is the want who want him and that makes the difference. When coaches are the ones who make the approach for players, such players are mostly guaranteed of regular playing time.”

The potential of the Ghanaian international has never been in doubt and there are many who believe he will flourish when he try his lukc at the ambitious English side.
