I'm not saying it's a good thing or good time for him to move; and I'd love it if he sticks with us till he retires. But given the problems AC will be facing, I really expect them to try to get one of the best there is.

I just cannot see him moving to Italy and to Milan. I think he would be a risk in theiur eyes also with his horrendous injury record.

Firstly to the other posters, I am very surprised with the ridiculous comments you have come out with. I have stated that I think Rio is the best Central Defender in the world and all you have come out with is ", "wow", "you are deluded" and some other bullshit. Not one argument to say that they think 'x,y,z' is the best/better, just bullshit - so my reply is go and play on your playstations!

Chinaman, I can see where you are coming from, but I doubt Ledley would leave us for Milan. Milan are a super club on a massive downswing. Their major rivals are 2 times scudetto champions(for the first time in decades) and their best player of all time (Maldini) is retiring at the end of the season. Milan need a HUGE injection of cash, as the backbone of the team is either too old or not good enough.

So in essence, it would be the worst time to move to Milan.

Cannavaro
Carvalho
Ramos
Metzelder
Puyol
Cordoba
Chivu
Samuel
Kaladze
Nesta

Any other arguments should be directed at a fully fit Jon Woodgate or Steven Taylor (in a few years time).

Failing that, speak to Ledley. He'll set u straight

Most of the defenders you have mentioned above are no where near as good as Ferdinand. Puyol and Cannarvaro are the only two who come close.

I agree that a fully fit Woodgate is a class defender, or he was a class defender. But he plays for Middlesbrough. Mentioning Steven Taylor is laughable though.

i think he is a good defender, not world class yet but one that could end up being up there in afew years time

and the most of the players Ladi listed are all better than Ferdinand, he isnt that great at times

If Ferdinand was called 'Ferdinainho' and was either Brazlian or Italian; all of you would be creaming your pants about him. Also, if he played for Spurs, he would be classed as an all time great like King is.

In reality, Some, simply play FM2008 for a few seasons and think they are experts about the subject. Talking about Cordoba (who doesn't make the 1st team) Carvalho (solid but not great) Ramos' (who doesn't even play DC for club nor country!) Metzelder, Chivu, Samuel, Kaladze - all of which would not get any where near the Man U starting lineup!

Vidic is no where near the player Ferdinand is. I will just say this: Ferdinand is an upgrade on King and Vidic is an upgrade on Dawson.

You say Ferdinand isn't great. Well he is the best English defender and he is the worlds most expensive playing for the biggest club in the world.

i would say Terri is a better defender, as is King and probably woodgate when fit, as for being the most expensive and playing for man U.... doesnt mean much, Bent was sold to us for 16.5million doesnt make him better than players sold for less, and craig gorden was sold for a huge amount as well, again doesnt prove that he is better than most other keeps about

Terry's game is severely let down by his lack of pace. His game reading skills and anticipation are excellent though.

In the modern game though I would rather have a defender who has decent game reading and anticipation skills and excellent pace (Ferdinand) than a player like Terry because the game is so fast nowadays and every team tries and plays a fast striker.

Yep they come so close, that they pass him, and then leave him playing 'how am I ever gonna live upto this £30m price tag when only General Levy will protect me?'

Anyway, you say Cordoba doesnt get in the first team. I'm sure I watched the Milan derby last weekend, and he got booked for a foul (which might have led to the goal) - but even if he didnt get booked in that game, and my minds playing tricks on me, who's the 2 centrebacks keeping him out of the team (refer to my list).

Rio Ferdinand is a classic case of 'new-school' defending where you dont actually defend, you try and play football on your 6 yard line.

I hate John Terry with a passion, but even he's a better defender than Rio. If Rio had half of Terry's defensive acumen, he might be a decent footballer.

I'm still wondering how u managed to construct that sentence about Kaladze, Chivu, and Metzelder not being near Man Utd's class, but most funnily, I love the way you casually dismiss Nesta as nowhere near Rio.

Nesta's best days are way behind him and is in the Maldini too old camp. Also, if you asked Sir Alex (off the record) who he would swap Ferdinand for and he would say no-one. That is not because he is his man, but because he is the best around.

Ledley, Ledley,

He is the king

Of white hart lane

Ledley...

Much better than that ****ball song some fans continue to sing.

"God Save The King" is an obvious one that comes to mind - 36,000 belting out the national anthem as Ledley's chant would be pretty cool!

No, no, I think that sums up the position - mainly because it is. Rio Ferdinand is a good person in between midfield and the goalkeeper (see Ladi, I didn't say 'defender') - but no way is he the best defender in the World.

Ledley is better than he - and that thug down the road Terry is better than he. And that's just English players. You've even discluded the joint World and European Player of The Year (2006) - not defender: player.

Cannavaro much?

General levy stop moaning

King and Vidic = Best two defenders in the prem when fit .....

Ferdinand and Terry are the best two defenders in my view. And also, if they were for sale, they would command a higher transfer fee than Cannavaro and Puyol.

EDIT: I don't think that Terry is better than King. But I think that the best pairing would be Ferdinand and Terry.

Maybe because Cannavaro and Puyol's combined age is 63 while Terry and Ferdinands is 55 . . . . . .

Not to mention the fact that English players are USUALLY overpriced compared to foreign.

And since when does money determine the quality of a player e.g Darren Bent 16.5 million - Dimitar Berbaton 10.9 million ......

I'm talking about Ferdinand's and Terry's worth within the world transfer market. Also, players who play in their homes country and are transferred to another team in the same league will always involve an over-inflated transfer fee and not just in England. Spanish players are vastly overpriced within Spain (Ramos) and the same for Italian players (Lentini, Cassano.)

I'm gonna try and get this back on track, cos evidently some people think a certain 'person' is God's gift to football in the back 4 dept.

Anyway, I agree with this choon!!! (i'm sure you'll find some you-tube footage of me singing it - then u might agree too )
