You hope he was misquoted... but I fear it's likely he's been tapped up by Man Utd.

Pochettino won't like this. But on this occasion, would a cash plus swap for Luke Shaw actually be a decent move if Rose is unsettled?

Frustrating but I think we can cope. Also, left backs shouldn't dictate our transfer policy.

He probably gave it to the Sun because they paid the most but they were the worst possible newspaper to have this interview with.

At least some of the other papers have competent journalists like the Independent.

Still can't believe how badly he is being advised.

I'm completely against the grain from most with the wages thing. I think our wage bill is bang on.

We pay the 12th highest wage bill in Europe and we're pretty close to there in ranking as well. Probably 15-20th best side in Europe.

There's pretty much been a campaign on our wage bill without looking at the real issue, the other clubs in our league grossly overpaying for average players.

Herrera on more than Modric. Lingard on more than Asensio. Paying ridiculous wages for average players.

We don't underpay, they overpay.

Are the people on here who are using the ambition line deliberately ignoring the money element of his interview and how if he received an offer he would let the club know his thoughts?
This is a come and get me plea to richer clubs slightly mascaraded that's all.
Ambition is his route of choice, walkers was homesickness.

When the Sun says something is honest alarm bells start ringing. Believe the hype, it's a shit-stirring exclusive. You know what, I'm not even bothered anymore. Next!

Bad timing, stupid even, and he seems to contradict himself a lot - although that may be the Sun using answers out of sequence. Why speak to the Sun anyway!?

He signed a contract less than a year ago, and Spurs finished 2nd. Since signing he has only played 18 games. He's missed 6 months it says there, and 2 more to come. He should be focused on recovering, not badmouthing his club or his fans.

When he says 'being injured has harmed me on and off the field', I wonder whether he's found himself bored and depressed, and possibly bitter, seeing others play while he's not able to, or seeing his mate Kyle move on to a big contract. He was not the player he became before Poch, hence the 'abuse'/criticism. Same as Walker. Both have improved dramatically. As he says, he's improved and the fans have been great for 3yrs.

He's probably right in that he should be paid what he is worth, but he signed a contract last September and has then been out of action. He says he isn't going to settle for less, but he signed that contract. His focus should be on repaying the faith the manager had in him, the club who has paid his wages while he's out injured, and showing the fans what we've missed so he can get back to that level again.

At least it says several times he's not looking to leave or trying to leave, although it does come across as if he would be if he was fit enough to play. And that's a shame.

Graham Roberts is on twitter at the moment replying to Darren Lewis of the Mirror saying Rose has the same agent as Walker and it's obvious he's been told to say these things - although he has said similar in the past.

Darren Lewis @MirrorDarren 4m4 minutes ago
Spurs still won't sell him but interview is surely a game-changer for them. That wage structure surely has to be looked at again.

Graham Roberts @GrahamRoberts4 4m4 minutes ago
He has same agent as walker who has pushed him with another manager don't be naive on this one Darren!

Darren Lewis‏ @MirrorDarren 6m6 minutes ago
Far from being disrespectful Rose interview articulates a players' perspective v well. In a short career you have to do what's best for you.

Graham Roberts‏ @GrahamRoberts4
Darren I think you know why he done it sir? Been told to also FYI he signed a 5 year deal one year ago and been injured for 5 months

Darren Lewis @MirrorDarren 1m1 minute ago
Agree on both. But I've interviewed him before. Remember him saying he has never forgotten when (some) Spurs fans didn't rate him.

He says it's not about the money doesnt' he, but then says....

'I know what I'm worth, and I will make sure I get what I'm worth'

I am not playing as well as I have done not to get paid what I think I am worth'

'I probably only have one big contract left in my career'

'I’m not going to be stupid enough not to try and get the most out of it — medals, trophies and salary'

'As with everyone else in my team, in my opinion, I am worth more than I am getting'

It's obviously 100% about the money. His agent has been in his ear since Walker got a transfer and a big juicy contract. Everything Rose says is justification for a higher wage. Either at a new club by wanting a move, or an improved deal at Spurs. The whole point of organising this interview.

It's unprofessional, the timing is terrible and it could have been said to the hierarchy in private.

Some valid points.... Yes he could have spoken about the money in private.... But perhaps he has done that.

It's no coincidence about the timing of the Man Utd links in the press this week either. Unfortunately the club should have forseen selling a player to a rival to strengthen them would lead to this. Big own goal by the club.....

Go back to his interview earlier this year where he said we cant be a nearly club to see that he wants more than just nearly winning a title.

I have no qualms with his stance here. Top players must be played market related salaries.

Just watch.... Dele/Dier/Eriksen are next at the end of the season.

All the players sales money should have been reinvested months ago... Not waiting for the season to start and shop in the bargain basket.

Ridiculous timing from Rose; he'll no doubt get a flying headbutt from Levy for this, but it's no great surprise and may go some way to dispel the myth perpetuated by some on here that we are somehow 'different' and players play for us because of their love for the club. We're not different. If we want to compete and progress (and the main progression for us given last season is to win the league) then we are going to have to spend the kind of money that the rest of the 'contenders' do. If not, you know who we're going to turn in to...

Pochettino will never stand for a player going to the press like that.
Danny Rose is finished at Tottenham.
If any positive can come from this it's Levy changing our wage structure and paying our players what they are worth.
If he doesn't then this will happen again and who knows which player will be next.

Read the interview in the sun. I'm baffled. He pulled the same thing on BBC Radio with Jermaine Jenas, when he spoke about Kyle Walker & how some players on the team might want to go off somewhere else because they've been at the club for some years & have given all they best can. Obviously he was speaking of himself..

I'm in two minds about this, on the one hand I'm a bit concerned that he's come out with this so close to the start of the season as it could upset the equilibrium of the team spirit, on the other hand, it could spell it it out to Levy that he is walking a tightrope when it comes to recruiting and keeping top players, Kane is probably the only player in the squad who will not agitate for a move should it become clear that this team is going to continually fall just short of glory on a regular basis, but the rest will, I'm sure, be off like a shot! Add to all that the possibility that Poch may get fed up with it eventually and you have the makings of the perfect shitstorm looming on the, hopefully, very distant horizon!

Pay the players what they are entitled to and they won't moan. If we don't up our game this will be just the start ....

So how much are they "entitled" to? If anything clubs should be harder - it's the pandering to the new breed of owner, the super rich, that has lead to this bullshit in the first place. They are not "entitled" to anything, they earn their money the same as the rest of us but, for some reason, when players start expecting huge wages simply because another player has them, clubs buckle and shell out then pass the cost down to the fan.

And there is this belief that our players can't earn the same as others - yes! Yes they can! From the details that leak out most of our players are on contracts that are incentive based, with very nice rewards, rather than insane flat fees - lower basic wage means lower income tax, then they can earn a shit load more through competition & achievement.

But no, rather than reward success and contrary to all financial sense, clubs have decided that it's easier to just pander to greedy mercenaries who may end up doing absolutely nothing to justify it and leave under a cloud but waaay richer.

FIFA, the FA, UEFA, Charlie Chalks Sunday Cloggers - they ALL need to work together to deny players demands and tell them that if they want the big bucks then they earn the big bucks with silverware, goals and success. Here's your 100k a week, now look at the state of this country, realise that if you want 200k a week you need to shut the fuck up and earn it.

I love Wee Danny and i can't fault him for having the same view as the rest of the players, but it's the players - self interest can kinda bias opinion at the expense of the bigger picture and fairness. Speak to the owners and see if they enjoy shelling out to finish mid table, simply because the average wage has climbed to the point where average players are expecting huge wages.

I actively want the "Super league" to happen - removing these unfathomably rich clubs from the domestic leagues would improve them no end.

I haven't read the entirety of the thread, but anybody who is saying that he hasn't said he wants to leave the club so is not angling for a transfer is deluded. Believe it or not, by not categorically saying he wants a transfer, he can still argue he is entitled to a loyalty bonus.

It is the reason players do it this way nowadays and why he probably hasn't gone directly to Poch and Levy and requested a transfer. He clearly harbours resentment at the fans and the board and, in my opinion, the timing is payback for the shit we gave him a few years ago.

I remember the game at Villa when Harry scored late on. He came over to applaud the away fans and a couple of them gave him absolutely vile abuse. You could see Danny's face and shoulders just drop and he turned around and walked away. I remember thinking at the time that, he may not be playing well, but he is still a human being and nobody deserves to be spoken to like that, especially a young kid trying his best to learn a trade. He got that type of treatment a lot during that time and it was actually worse at home.

What goes around, comes around...

Wants to win things v Money.....Let's not kid ourselves.

If there were a few points swing last year, and we actually won the league, he'd be complaining that a league-winning Left Back deserves more dosh.

We must raise the wage ceiling for our entire first eleven pronto. This surely can be built into long-term revenue projections taking for granted we will be in a new 60k stadium in 12 months.

It's taken us soon long to make this step forward, that i'd be truly gutted if we now moved backwards.

I blame the retarded Spurs fans on this very site who criticised him back in the day.

He didn't deserve it then and I can understand why he would say a big fu to those people.

I still read now that before Poch he was rubbish, Rose was a very good fb and developed into a World class fb.

Everything he said in that interview is fair enough.
No he was useless! Positioning was terrible it was easier to get on behind him than Katy Price he'd hit a cross and it'd go out for a corner he was that bad! We all thought he'd be first out the door under Poch
