Who else notable is in market for a first-choice keeper this summer? Are we, in this niche, top of the pile?

The time to get Maignan was when he was on a free transfer two years ago - when Hugo actually needed replacing, or slowly phasing out.

We should get him. No brainer and one where we can get him before we bring a manager in. Juat don't fuck around.

Allegedly Chelsea

Any clue why they are trying to get rid of Mendy? Feel like he was cemented as their 1 and then it all went up in flames. I read a stat that he completed over 50% of long range passes too with us linked. Odd one.

According to infogol, Raya completed about 65% of passes this season and Mendy (with way less minutes) completed 77%.

A good keeper is fundamental to a top side so if he's the one is £40 mil really too much?

I agree but also, I don't think anyone saw Hugo falling off quite so dramatically.
I think we should have started looking last year but honestly thought he had another 2 or 3 years left at least.

It's such a hard position to replace because there aren't many decent keepers who will be willing to wait on the bench for a year or two until the club captain goes.
It's the only position that can't really be rotated, which makes succession planning incredibly hard.

Did think about putting it in the ITK thread but better in here perhaps.

Matt Law on LWOS said he think Raya is who we will go for and quite a bit of work has gone on in bringing him in. If Ange wants him then we’ll go for it. £30 million he reckons would get him.

Why would Brentford let him go with Europa looming?
1 year left and his agent has been very clear about Raya not signing a new deal.
Either he goes this summer, or he goes for free in 2024, and they think that 40m is too much. If it happens I think it's going to happen closer to 30m, or 35m at a stretch.

Unfortunately not by a long distance:
  • Utd looking to replace De Gea
  • Bayern Munich haven't fully replaced Neuer yet

Looking at Brentford's wage bill we could easily double/triple Raya's wages , should think he's itching for a big payday move.

It will get dragged out until the final weeks of the transfer window until Brentford drop the price to reasonable levels.
