Shame they didn't sell him to us for a decent fee. I'll get behind Vicario but Raya seemed like much more of a sure bet.

We offered more than they agreed to sell him to them . They thought 3 clubs would come to the table only we joined we told them to stuff it after talking for a while about the deal with them . Arsenal got offered the player from previous intrest and Brentford dropped the price . In previous seasons we would have got him but not untill the last week of the window this time around club didn’t wanna wait around

Yeah. I think Arsenal have used the fact they've already got Ramsdale to their advantage here. Clever way of operating. No way could we have waited this long to get a keeper in.

Their fans seem to think they got a good deal. They have to pay Blackburn 20% as well

If you mean a sell on clause then no, Arsenal don't pay that, Brentford have to pay that to Blackburn. 20% of the transfer fee Brentford have to pay Blackburn.

People will say it’s clever business and it might turn out to be, but it’s only because they wasted a bunch of money on Ramsdale who now needs upgrading. If we’re spending 30m in two years on a new keeper because Vic doesn’t really turn out good enough, people won’t be talking about how clever it is…

Not only that but they just extended Ramsdale's contract and doubled his wages in what...June, and he's just done a very vulnerable interview and they go and publicly sign his replacement.

If it was us we'd be pitching a fit about how much of a clownshow it all is from the club.

Are they replacing Ramsdale? I think they're very happy with Ramsdale. I think they've signed Raya to have two very strong options for 1 spot and to not have a big drop in quality if one gets injured. They'll have a lot of games this season too and are planning for that to be the norm in seasons ahead.

As others have said, we might well have struck gold with Vicario, but he's unproven in the Prem while our neighbours have two proven PL keepers. We're the ones with our neck out. They've got the issue of keeping them happy, but I'm not aware of this being some kind of plan to oust Ramsdale. Is that the case?

Ramsdale ain’t that bad and was a damn sight better than our options. I hate them and sometimes he is ropey but he saved them a lot last season.

Even more reason why we should have gone for Raya... no need to give him a year. We went for the budget option.

On YouTube.... it gives both....but that's what I get...not assured as a keeper.
Every player joining needs to be given time. Even joining from a premiership team the player still needs time although it should be less of a risk. As stated by our ITKs, he was the no.1 choice of our chief scout so it’s hardly a budget option.

I’m sure our scouting team did more than just watch YouTube to scout him🤣

This tbh, it’s a very very strange signing.

keepers need minutes, and it’s unlikely he’ll get that, so he must be on a fair wage to go.

His stats were really bad last season. Especially the second half of the season where he was one of the worst keepers (statistically) in the league.

Main positive in my eyes is that he will be disrupting Brentford preparations for their first lge game against us.

Fingers crossed the number 2 has to come in at late notice

Do not think Raya played any of their pre season games, Flekken the player they bought this summer played all the last 3 games

Yes. Well done I know that. But we bought a replacement keeper and now this thread has sprung to life again when he’s linked with ‘them’. Let it die.
No need to be rude to the guy, if you don't want to read about David Raya then don't go in the David Raya thread - it's not hard

Stats are one thing and maybe he let in some shots he shouldn’t have but some of the saves he made were in big moments and saved them points in big games.
