It puts them in a shit or bust situation. If they don't get the outputs to match their spend, then they are going to have limited spend in the next couple of years.

The rice deal is being paid in 18 months, so that's around 100m of cash committed. It's mad.
Completely agree. They’ve bet the house.

it's called building from a position of strength. Something Levy, the master businessman, can't get his head around.
Arsenal are very much doing that, but on this occasion they only managed to do so because Brentford tried to play hardball with us/Bayern (and potentially other teams not mentioned in the media), and consequently seem to get millions and millions less than they could have gotten.

Glad that we quickly moved away and didn't fuck around, Brentford fucked up on this one. Shame that Arsenal got another great HG keeper, but whatever.

I think it's fair to say that if Vicario ever concedes a goal for us then we've missed out massively here, absolutely incredible business by Arsenal, Ramsdale is vastly overrated.

I've had a few negative ratings on this so I just thought I'd make something clear.

Believe it or not I was not being serious when I said if Vicario ever concedes a goal for us that we have missed out massively by not getting Raya. I was being bombastic, I'm aware that saying I'll judge a keeper if he ever concedes a goal may have been too subtle.

The reality is, Brentford were overconfident in the strength of their hand at beginning of summer, they signed a keeper early which showed their hand. They didn't anticipate us going a different direction or United and Arsenal have seen an opportunity and produced an excellent bit of business. Business that only exists because of how thing's transpired, we would not have been able to get this good a deal on him, it is merely circumstance and so Spurs can't be judged on it.

IMO....

I think it's gonna be the end of either Ramsdale or Raya.

one will have to be the first choice, and the other will have to make do with cup games.

Personally, i felt Ramsdale did well at the first half of the season, drop slightly at the end of the season, so i wondering if this is legoheads idea to push him that little bit harder to perform.

I do feel for Raya, i don't see him being first choice unless Ramsdale makes a couple of mistakes. i think his place in the Spain squad might be gone.

As far as I'm concerned, Ramsdale is the best of what I call, the Pickford style of keepers, In that list of keepers are: Ramsdale, Pickford, Martinez and the style is to have a big personality with lots of theatrics and they will now and then have a game of their life and also produce some of the best saves of the season. They will also lose concentration, fail at fundamentals which leads to very basic goals being conceded but are not as glaring errors more consistently than people realise, though they do have a howler in them. They also make their defence uneasy when those theatrics go from excited to anxious.

Then you have the Allison type of keeping, who makes saves look boring, who have incredible positioning, incredible fundamentals, who can also play on the ground. Now this type of keeper also has the massive error in them and I think it can look bad to the eye but the difference is, you don't concede those basic goals as often. So what fans can do is see 2/3 howlers and think a keeper is awful but not realise that those 2/3 howlers are not as costly as the 8/10 basic fundamental errors that lead to goals, All they see is the howler.

I think Raya is in the latter camp of keepers, I think that Arsenal showed mental frailties over the past two seasons at times and Raya helps them tremendously with that, as does Rice. There's no contest to me on these keepers and who will eventually be number 1. People keep telling me Ramsdale is a great keeper, I think he's great on youtube, had a good season but he is the Barthez and Raya is the Van Der Sar.

I would argue that it is more of terrible business from Brentford than brilliant from Arsenal.

They're not mutually exclusive. It's both a terrible deal for Brentford, and annoyingly a brilliant one for Arsenal.

Probably too late now, but would be quite funny if Real Madrid come in for him after Courtois' injury...
