Losing Dawson feels a bit like putting down the family Labrador. Too many memories and love but it won't stop shitting itself. Time to go.

Just some ITK from Hull Forum/Twitter. We all seem to see the clock hitting midnight on this transfer - but until its officially announced - who the hell knows…
A lot of the talk seems to be on the potential testimonial and Dawson seemingly not wanting to leave without getting it (which is what has been tossed around here)…Arguments over there about whether he wants the money for himself or for his charity, another argument over whether Levy would round up to 10 and sort out the charity in question..

Hutch_Tiger 24/08/2014, 06:03 PM Dawson was agreed in june patty before we sold long so shouldnt effect the rhodes bid

Hutch_Tiger 24/08/2014, 06:09 PM Been haggling with the notorious daniel levy for a £1m loyalty bonus or something which has held it up so long

And some more from our friendly neighborhood twitter-man This part may seems about right - maybe get fazio in officially and then clear the move for Dawson to head out...

Tigertully · 13h @Nicks648 Dawson all done at our end, has been for a while, issues been at Spurs with Dawson, hasn't signed so anyone can come in but doubt

Tigertully · 11h @TheTottenhamWay @kpsundayworld Dawson been done for weeks here, it's your end the problem,#payhimoff

Tigertully @jamiemarsh86 I don't think they will release him until they have their man first

I'll still wear my Dawson kit with pride on some select Sundays (when I'm not wearing Lamela)

I've always wondered (since I've never been on SC on a crazy deadline day)- how does one manage an ITK thread on Deadline Day?-They've got up to 200 pages before
We fit a rubber handle to the banstick and coat our hands in talc so as to avoid blisters and then set about everyone.

I hope it all works out for Dawson. Big affection for him and massive congratulations for being such a fantastic role model for our club for so long.

I do giggle though when people shout out 'pay him off - only a million'. Pretty sure our profits after tax and interest was 1.5 million last year...a lot of money to just signoff chaps :)

I hope their medicals aren't too intense.
It will be like a survey on an old house.
There will be long list of all the things that are broken and another list of all the the things that are likely to break in the near future.
But his price reflects this and he could well give very good service for several years,
as long as he is used properly.

Are we still able to give him a testimonial? Even though its technically 9 years he's been with the club...

This is a question I've asked. I did a little research and there is no rule about service. 10 years was just the marker in place when these matches mattered to the player's financial well being post-retirement. They do them for the fans and for charity these days. The technicality that helps is that MD has actually played 10 seasons for us. Back in '04 we bought him mid-way and he played a handful of games in that first half-season.

Nevertheless, a club could give it to anybody. We could do one for Ghaly, if we wanted to. I imagine the crowd would be very pleasant :D But all kidding aside, Deco had one between Porto and Barca and he played 5 years for each I think.

These days, the 10 year rule seems to matter more to supporters who have to watch players come and go so quickly that they rarely find attachment. A player that makes it 10 years is rare and the supporters tend to want to celebrate that.

So it will come down to Levy's discretion. And that's going to be tough. Because it took us a couple of years to get around to Ledley, and he was one of the greatest players in our history. Dawson has been a model professional but he's not going to make anybody's list of greats. But I imagine this is one area where the club might actually listen to its supporters and if enough called for one, they would do it.

But since Lennon is either Levy's or Lewis' favorite, I imagine that we will see one in the future for him since this is his 10th season. And if they do one for Lennon, then there is no reason we shouldn't do one for Dawson (as he was captain)

So hopefully, this research is correct. But if wrong, hopefully somebody can correct.

Edit: just noticed that some of the talk is around said testimonial and/or loyalty payment.
