GK: if we keep Lloris we only need a backup. If Lloris goes we have to replace, but there are lots of good options out there.

RB: Walker and Naughton. Good enough. If we lose Naughton we need a backup.

LB: rose and fryers. Get rid of Fryers, have Rose as 2nd choice and get a new first choice.

CB: Dawson, Vert, Chiri, Kaboul. Enough players but very unbalanced. Lot's of similar qualities. Best thing would be to replace Dawson with an Even better version of Kaboul.

CM: Capoue, Sandro, dembele, Paulinho, Bentaleb and Holtby. Want to keep Sandro, Dembele, Bentaleb and Paulinho. Need a player who will do deep runs.

Wingers: Chadli, Lennon, Townsend, Lamela, Siggy. Get rid of Siggy and Lennon. Buy Plyanka.

AM: Erikssen. Keep him. Could use another really creative player.

Forwards: ade and Soldado. Keep both.

If we switched to a 433 I actually think we have perfectly good options for that CM3. Not necessarily tip top but good enough to compete with those we want to compete with. It's trying to fit them into a CM2 that we suffer. Sure if we could unearth the next Modric that would be lovely, but I'm working under the assumption that will be difficult.

Much bigger problems are that we don't have single defender who is actually a top class defender. Vertonghen is the best of the bunch based on his all round skill set but even he's a bit flawed defensively. He needs a very decent defensive partner.

But Walker, Naughton, Rose, Dawson and Chiriches are all major doubts in terms of defensive ability and Kaboul is fucked.

Next priority is to up the intelligence/composure/quality in the final third, clearly a huge problem for a very long time. And a long time ago I was saying just buying a decent striker is not the solution.

Maybe, but I still think we need that type of player in there who can pick a pass. I think Paulinho, Dembele and Eriksen are all guilty and prone to giving too many sloppy passes away too, passes that don't really have much risk. It would be great to have a cultured passer in the bunch.

I fully agree with the defenders though. I thought Vertonghen would be our Vidic/Terry/Kompany but I also think he certainly has his defensive weaknesses and he doesn't have the aura/ability that those have. I honestly think we can get away with Walker, even though he is prone to lapses in concentration but I do think he's improving.

The crux to all of this is who we bring in as manager. Logic tells me that many of the players mentioned above as deadwood would probably do very well under an experienced, dynamic manager, however finding this key position is certainly a task that Danny boy, for whatever the reason, hasn't been up to so far.

This is not Football Manager, we need a hardcore of about 18, then the rest youngsters, you only have to look at what Liverpool are doing to know this is the best way for a Club like us.

He wouldn't be a reserve, he would be in rotation. Form, fitness of him and other players etc would mean he would get a lot of games. I just but it as team and alt team to show what players we have for the positions.

Capoue (and others) wouldn't just be sitting around waiting for chances/injury, they would be fighting for a place.

We wouldn't need huge amounts of cash, as we have those players this season and we can afford it. BTW, the Liverpool team that have a smaller squad, play 29m more in wages per year than us (see link below).

If we had to get rid of a MC to give youngsters a chance, I would rather Dembele be sold than Capoue TBH.

One thing LVG is known for is good squad rotation so I agree he is the right man for us.

Agree with most of that... and the values. Although I'd bring Holtby back into the squad let him and Chadli fight for the squad spot. I'd also bring Falque back into the squad for pre season and let him fight with Pritchard for the squad spot.

For CB I'd bring Caulker back - no matter what the cost. I'd also look to bring Eric Dier back to England as we still need cover for Kaboul (I personally question whether he'll go around again next season)
