Out of interest would anyone take Carrick back if it was an option?

I think everyone with a sane mind would love to have Carrick back!

Question is what it would cost us.. if the price was a Berbatov, Carrick exchange, then I think alot of people would say no. In my opinion a DM of Carricks class is more diffiult to come over than a forward of Berbatovs class.. thou I don't want to get rid of Berba, i think Carrick would be more valuable to us.

I agree, but I don't think the majority of posters will.

So what about Stephen Appiah. I know he's 4 months into rehab for his knee, but goddamn if this guy is ready to go again, he would be better than Veloso. Can win the ball, tough as nail, inspirational, and can get forward when needed. Why is it that nobody seems to be linked with him? A lot of us seem to want him, but why is he more unwanted than my sexual advances?

Carrick or Berbatov. You know what, I would take Berbatov every time. I can understand the arguement for Carrick but I believe that in Modric we have a viable replacement who, while more offensive (as in attacking not rude), can track back and tackle very well. Put him next to one or two defensive midfielders and we have offset the loss of Carrick to a large extent.

Berbatov, however, is irreplaceable. The only person whom I can think comes close to him is Torres who, along with any others is unattainable. Carrick's loss was so huge because it was like losing two players of high quality (a defensive, interceptor and a pivot, passer). As such we struggled. But we seldom struggled because of Berbatov, but inspite of him. People will say he 'sulked'. Well he still managed fifty odd goals and many assists. He 'sulked' at home to Reading and scored four goals. He can do what he wants if that's what it gets out of him.

I still think we should go all out for Xabi Alonso. The Juve deal seems to be falling through and Pool are gonna need that money for Barry and possibly Villa as theyve been linked today. I know Dan said we enquired and he wasnt interested, but if Pool need to sell and no one else is in for him I think Juande may be able to pursuade him.

I disagree van Pommel. We need a ball winner, not a deep lying playmaker. I like Xabi, but he's a bit dodgy on defense, and I don't think he has any ability to tackle.

We didnt do too badly when we had Carrick and I'd say they're fairly similar players.

Yeah and Carrick had Davids to win the ball, and just having a ball winner playing out on the left was enough to help protect the back four. Think about a central ball winner will be.

I think that if Ramos gets the team working then we'll be fine with Jenas. Look at the games against Arsenal and Chelsea last year, we didn't give them time or space and bossed both midfields. Yes I would like a great DM but I would prefer our team working hard game in game out.
