I know where we were Riggster, my point is that we have built up gradually within our means. Those teams haven't, and to me that is what is wrong with modern day football.

Yep. Watching our gradual progress under Levy has mostly been enjoyable to witness. It had the feeling of a long-term project, and we could all see the side slowly evolving into a top team. It makes success the result of a long journey, which seems more satisfying to me, as you can see what the club (and the fans) have been through in order to get to that point.

When clubs like City just get fast-tracked to the very top of the football tree, it makes 'doing things the right way' or 'long-term projects' completely meaningless.

We could finally start to establish ourselves as a top four team, then Stoke City get bought out by billionaires and jump straight ahead of us.

It's like spending years working in a garage, teaching yourself how to be a good mechanic. You work and save in order to buy special parts for the car you're building from scratch, all with a view to fulfilling your dream of one day winning the local motorcar rally.

Finally after years of dedication you've created your pride and joy, and know you have a chance of making that once distant dream become a reality.

Then the rich fat kid down the road reads about the race the day before it takes place, buys a Ferrari, and rams you off the road as they collect their trophy.

I don't know what you're complaining about, the repairs to the paintwork on my Ferrari cost thousands after that you pauper.

Yes.

You don't? Never mind. You can always wait until we're world beaters, then you can start to care again.

I never said I didn't care !!!! I said that I care less than I did. Two very different things, my pride at being a Spurs fan will never wane. I couldn't care less if we were world beaters. I went to over a dozen games last season and found the atmosphere so unenjoyable. During the Basel game quatre final I was ashamed of our support the Basel away in full cry and our meek supporters just lifeless. I started trying to gee a few people up and it turned out the 3 blokes in front of me were Basel fans who had bought up our empty seats. It used to be that the reward I got from going to games was feeling united with the crowd and the feeling of supporting our team and the shirt. Now that the reward isn't there anymore I feel bitter and watching spurs on the box just isn't the same.

Not Spurs related, but tonight epitomises why I am falling out of love with football. The hype around tonights match, it's obscene. Where were these two clubs 10-12 years ago!!

Erm, Chelsea were second and in the Champions League, Ken Bates had saved the club from near bankruptcy and built them up. :p

I think a lot of people are accepting it. Hence threads like this.

Since ENIC came in I have felt optimistic, even in the dark days we seemed to be moving up. When we signed Robbie Keane (to replace Steffen Iverson or Chris Armstrong or someone like that) it seemed like we had ambition, targets ahead of us, that we were improving. Since then we've signed many exciting players (Defoe, Modric, Berbatov etc) and had many younger players show promise for the future (Carrick, Dawsom, Lennon, Bale, Walker etc). It always seemed like we were on the up, that next season was going to be better than last, that it would only be time before we put the gooners in their place.

Now it feels like we've peaked and the momentum is going down. Modric and Bale have left. King has retired. Lennon, Jenas, Dawson and Huddlestone never reached their potential and of our current squad the star attacker (and only exciting player this season) is a notoriously unreliable 29 YO and our star GK and centre back look like leaving. On top of that we are nowhere near the scum, who after years of decline seem to have found a second spring. We've had three (3!) thrashings this season, when previously, even in defeat we were standing up and giving a contest to the sky four.

The only positives for the future from this season is a fullback who seems to be starting to garner a bit of common sense and an attacking midfielder who is showing fleeting touches of class (But has yet to really dominate games).

I feel we are at the same point that Liverpool were at under Dalgish. The ascendency has ended, the best players have left, the younger players aren't coming through and we are spending top class money on decent players who aren't top-class.

Now maybe this is just a blip, maybe next season Lloris and Verts will stay, Sandro will be fit, Carrol will be the next Xavi, Ericksen will force his obvious talent onto games and Lamella will give fullbacks nosebleeds. At this moment in time I am not expecting that, I am expecting a couple of seasons of mid-table mediocrity before we start building up from the bottom again realising that we have squandered the Bale money.

God I miss Ledley King.

And then Ken Bates took them close to Bankruptcy again, Abramovich bailed them out and took them to top of the league.

Our biggest mistake was not buying a top quality striker the year we did qualify for the champions league, if we had added strength while we were doing well we would have qualified again I believe, and opened up the champions league revenues.

We signed van Der Vaart, Gallas and Sandro for that season. 3 different players of genuine quality.

Did people really want us to sign erm, 7 new players for our first CL season? The reason we did so well is because a lot of that team were on the same wavelength.

Evidence of Soldado's misfiring shows that there was no guarantee signing a 'top quality striker' would've benefitted anyone.

I cannot help myself but care, more and more as life goes on. The ranting, raving, swearing at and on the Telly, trying hard not to draw the attention of the old bill when at a game, kicking the cat when we've lost, being on this site, taking the piss out of rival team supporters and getting it back. Jumping for joy when we win. All sound familiar?!

I eagerly await matches each week, frequent forums and news sites and fansites and blogs. Predict outcomes and discuss formations. On matchday time seems to go by so slowly. When the match starts and as soon as the whistle is blown, however, I can't help but feel nothing but apathy. And when the match is finished and we've won, I can't help but say: uh, so?

Supporting tottenham is one of those strange phenomenons in life where you love them so much, but at the same time hate them?

I care way too much about my team. The team that has given me some absolute highs and sadly some crushing lows. I don't want spurs to be all conquering every season like a team such as Celtic for example but I just wish I wouldn't get let down every single year when they promise so much.

We have an absolutely fantastic set of players and once again, arguably one of the best squads in the league (like we have for the last 5 years, or so we are told) yet every single season we find a way to fuck things up.

Yesterday was a pivotal moment in our season. A game that was absolutely must win considering our upcoming fixtures against teams that really have hit their stride. Yet everyone from the management to the subs gave the most inept performance from a spurs team since, well, last season against Norwich at home, or Blackpool away and the list goes on.

I don't know if it's the gods conspiring against us or our expectations but every single season we manage to fuck it up and ruin my weekend again.

I love you tottenham hotspur but please, please, please get your shit together.

And whoever manages the team next season, could you please make some sensible choices when it comes to selection....no Eriksen? My goodness

I might start spending my 50 quid on one of those women who light candles in your penis and whip and humiliate you. It seems to be a similar experience to what I get at the lane. Plus I hear @Houdini does a discount for sc members.
