Yeah, Guardiola chose Messi, Eto'o, Henry, Iniesta and Bojan ahead of GDS when he was 19, he must really be shit.

if he was one of the worlds best talents surely

A) he would have sold him for more than he did?
B) loaned him out?
C) kept him and let him develop from the bench etc

A) Supposely there was clauses and add-ons worth about 6 million. And I am sure Levy negotiated the way he always does.

B,C) Maybe GDS didn't want to?

even £6m for one of the worlds greatest talents?? I think Wilshere would go for a little more than that and hes at the age GDS was isnt he?

regarding B and C - if Barca rated him enough they wouldnt have sold him, they would have either kept him or loaned him out. If GDS wanted games and Barca wanted to keep him a loan wouldnt have been hard to arrange for 1 of the worlds biggest talents. Simple fact is, he wasnt 1 of the biggest talents in the world. He was runner up in the U17 WC player of the tournament hence his early hype but since then its all been a bit of an anti climax.

What so wow about that? Skill wise, and natural ability, he is head and shoulders above any British players we have on our books. The boy needs someone to take him by the horns and harness all that talent....

I think you ll find he said he was better than any British player - not just a british player on our books.

He chose a centre midfielder and a 32 yr old whose legs have gone?

Just how did he win all these trophies, he's clueless.....

No, not 6 million. 5+6=11 million.

This has been discussed before. When Pep came in after Rijkaard he sold Ronaldinho, Deco and GDS (and maybe someone else) because he didn't like their attitude. It wasn't about lack of talent.

Come on. Iniesta sometimes played in a more attacking position. And Barca had just bought Henry when GDS was sold.

not convinced by any of that tbh - all seems like excuses.

Oh, yeah, I forgot. Everything conflicting with your opinion is just excuses. Sorry.

He couldn't get ahead of Messi and got sold because he was shit. He then came to Spurs and hasn't proved anything when he got the opportunity (2 starts, 8 subs) because he's shit. He won't get any more games because he is always drunk or shit in training. And when he does anything that might seem good it's because he is loaned to a team in a shit league or plays against a shit team with Mexico. Oh, and Mexico is also shit, or he wouldn't have been picked.

Better?

His game in total last night was more impressive than just the goal,
the goal was just the cherry on the top.
See no reason why he can't do well in VDV's role,
let's use him in the UEFA cup and see how it turns out.
More talent in him than any british player.

unfortunately, you're not exactly right. his game until the goal was very frustrating. He showed glimpses of skill and pace, but he never did anything with them. Chicharito was getting very frustrated with gio because he wouldnt release the ball early, or when he did it was the wrong pass. He made the wrong decision in just about every threatening situation.

Just to answer a couple of your points

1 - Has he ever made it in a good team or in a good league?
2 - I never said Mexico are shit? I simply said that playing for them and scoring doesnt mean he is great or even good enough for us. Look at Crouch's record for England, or Healy's record for NI...............

All you have continued to do in this thread is come up with many reasons why he didnt make it at Barca, with us, with Galatasaray and use his performances for Mexico in a sub standard competition as some sort of proof that he is good enough. As i said before - they are just excuses. He hasnt made it at any of his clubs and although he had a couple of good performances at the WC (0 goals, 0 assists) and cameos for us and Barca he hasnt shown that he has the potential that you and a couple of others seem to think. When he comes back and proves me wrong please tell me, but until then - its just excuses.

Over and out :hump:

Now its the same age? Earlier it was just a british player! Why move the goal posts? Ill answer anyway - Bale and Wilshere.
Not exactly a huge list is it......? All the more reason to give the boy a proper chance, surely he's good enough to make our bench and be used as a impact sub.....

There are plenty more british players better than GDS that i chose not to name - i was simply responding to the question to name a better player (the poster said there was not a more talented british player than him).

As i wrote earlier (wish people would read rather than pigeon hole people) I would be happy for GDS to be in our squad and on the bench. However, that is all he deserves at best as he has done nothing to suggest he is good enough. There are many many

Yes and now he rarely does, because he's ineffective in comparison to midfield.

If by just, you mean 1 year, then your right, they had just bought him.....

Posted earlier in the thread.

Dos Santos has exceptional ability: he's technically great, fast, low centre of gravity, can play all across the front line and scores goals. If you look at his goals for Racing, three were poacher's goals including two with his head. He also chipped the keeper from the edge of the area for his fifth goal.

See here.

I can't imagine Lennon scoring any of those goals.

The bottom line is that he has never been given a run in the Spurs team. One start here, a sub's appearance there.

As a young kid, living in a foreign country, with bags of talent, not even making the bench week in, week out, must be soul destroying.

Johnnie Jackson played 20 times for Spurs. Dean Marney 8 times. Gio has made 10 appearances in three seasons.

Given a chance at Spurs? He clearly hasn't been.

Gio scored a fantastic chipped goal from the edge of the box for Barca, and scored another excellent chip in the clip above for Racing.

So, his chip for Mexico merely confirmed what many of us have always known through the evidence of our own eyes: Gio is technically excellent and has never been given a run of games at Spurs to adapt to the pace of English football.

All the rest is gossip and opinion.
