I’d love Eze but feel he’s probably out of reach financially given the amount of money we still need to spend improving the squad.

What’s so frustrating is that he was such an obvious signing first time around. Buying the very best British or HG youngsters from outside of the PL was essentially how we built the foundation of our teams under Jol, Redknapp and Poch - all of them easily the most enjoyable and successful sides that we’ve had in the modern era. Palace are probably the masters of it now as we’ve seen recently with Wharton as well, but TBH almost every premium signing from the lower leagues has paid off in the last 5-6 years which includes the likes of Gyokeres, Watkins, Bellingham, Bowen, Toney and even Maddison when he signed for Leicester.

Our last comparable signing was Sess, which of course has been a disaster - but we moved 12-18 months too late for him, by which time he was effectively a PL player, his price was inflated, his form and confidence was low following a relegation with Fulham and our team was already in steep decline. I firmly believe if we’d signed him a year earlier it would have been an entirely different story for him and the club; even more so if we’d signed Grealish that same summer as we should have done.

All of which is to say that we need to sign the next Eze and return to a policy that served us so well previously, especially now that we have the right manager, momentum and platform for these kids to shine. Gray, Summerville and Philogene would be obvious targets from the Championship and their total cost combined would probably be in the region of what it would take to buy Eze.

Transfers are surely a buyer's market, so hopefully the market might find some middle ground eventually after all this FFP, as prices cannot keep rising for players if clubs don't have that kind of money, or rather are more responsible with the money they do have. I hope it'll soon become a case of 'if Spurs can't afford him, then who can?'

Very true what y’all hearing. Us paying is another matter. Unless we trade a player in exchange, then possible

5 for Skipp. Jeez he is so underrated by spurs supporters. Guy is British, still young, has CL experience (last seen bossing AC Milan in Milan) and has a exceptional temperament and work ethic.

Would be worth at least 3x that to other PL clubs I'd guess.
Market has tanked with PRS. Highly desirable players will still demand high fees, but clubs just can’t afford many transfers now so player valuations will have to come way down.

If we were still in 2022’s transfer market then we’d probably have a shot at getting £15-20m for him.

Hopefully if we get this new investment we are looking for then getting players like Eze comes easier and more doable for us. Would love him and Olise, class both of them.

It all depends on whether A) Palace want/need to cash in and B) City see him as a main target.

If Palace want to sell for a realistic price and City don’t have him top of their list then we’re in as good a position (or better) as anyone.

Wonder who we could realistically send there as part of a deal who would both want to play for Palace and would get game time?

Spence?
Gil?
Skipp?
Reguilon?

HG will always command a premium though, especially from the elite clubs who will typically find the squad regulations more challenging than spending regulations. 6 of the top 10 most expensive transfers in the PL have been for HG players and for good reason.

Palace also have no reason to sell other than for a ridiculous offer. Their survival is dependent on their star players and they pay them well accordingly. They kept Zaha during his prime years as they’d tied him down on a long term contract and they did the same with Olise and Eze last summer despite interest from Chelsea and City. There isn’t any leverage.

I've suggested this so many times and though it won't happen, It always made sense to me.

I can see a deal where we give them Spence and money for Eze. Palace have Ward & Clyne, who are both on the decline and they could do with a pacy RB.

I'm surprised Palace weren't interested in Spence. They have 2 really ageing RBs in Clyne and Ward and could do with some energy and pace on that side.

Seen the bbc article about palace wanting £60m. Seems about right in terms of them agreeing something in the region of about £50-55m plus some add-ons.

Whether we see him as this year’s Richarlison, in terms of spending at the top end of our normal range or not is to be seen. But I don’t think Palace asking £60m at this point makes it unlikely for us to get involved.

Maybe we view him as a guy we could go for if we generate enough money in sales? I hope it’s that, at least, and we are prioritizing our predetermined transfer budget on areas with glaring holes in the squad (there’s still quite a lot, in my opinion).

Can see him going to City unfortunately, I think if Villa qualify for Champions League they'll go in for Grealish.

If anything I think Spence would more likely be used in a potential Guðmundsson deal given that Genoa have an option on Spence and want to keep him.

WLB had said we weren't at the front of the queue for him. Which I suppose could be read that we're not his first choice or he isn't ours🤷‍♂️
Word I've read in another place is he'd be happy to come to us so it could be we're not Crystal Palace's 1st choice.

Spence and Skipp seem the most obvious choices and probably most appealing to Palace.

I can’t. There’d be much more noise on this right now if that were the case. I’m not saying it won’t happen but he doesn’t seem like he’s high on their priority list.

Just one person but a colleague of mine is a Palace season ticket holder and goes to all home and away games - he does think that Palace will sell at least two stars (likely to be Guehi and Eze in his opinion) - and also believes Olise to be the fundamentally better player and with a higher ceiling than Eze.

That's my impression watching them both. They look similarly skilled right now but Olise is 3-4 years younger. But then Olise has had more concerning injuries.

They're both phenomenal players imo.

I believe city have already signed Savio from Girona who is a flying left winger who's excellent in 1v1s. Which will make grealish surplus anyway.

I see strong links for city and paqueta in the more central attacking midfield role.

Maybe stars will align..
