"it never does you any harm to perform well in a game"

ITV commentary makes me want to smash the TV. Please god they're not the only ones covering the world cup

We had a distant, demented 95-year old aunt. She would go on for days without speaking or even acknowledging other people's existence. She would sit staring at thin air; day in, day out.

One day, after her longest bout of silence in a while, where she hadn't spoken at all in over a week, the household was sitting in front of their new TV watching an Italy match. This aunt was looking even more insular than usual, her eyes completely out of focus. One of her grandsons joked that it was because she probably didn't like football. Pirlo had a shot on goal, which was excellently saved by the opposing keeper. Then the power cut, and after ten minutes of anxious silence waiting for the electricity to return, the dear, demented aunt suddenly said:

"What was that idiot doing there? If he didn't get in the way that would have been a goal"

That was the last thing she said for at least another week.

Welbeck should not be starting in the WC, not good enough.

I haven't noticed Henderson much tonight, I don't know if that's a good thing cos he hasn't done anything wrong or a bad thing cos he's hasn't stood out, he's kind of got that unsung job sitting.
Unlike Gerrard he doesnt take 5 mins to control and pass. He was one of the few players that moved the ball very quickly in to dangerous places without dwelling on it.
Why do England Managers always persist in playing ordinary players over real talent.

Barkley, Wilshere and Sterling on the bench whilst Henderson and Wellbeck are on the pitch.

Spain play their flair players and then defend as a team. We don't need cart horses!
Henderson was good today imo

well wtf?? He was one of the best players on the field when he was on.

I dont rate the lad in that setup......sorry. It all gets too congested, mind Rooney is neither use nor ornament.

Gerrard would also be on the scrap heap. Edit along with our left back numpty

He's ok. Did alright today. But there's no creativity there.

I thought him and Baines were the only ones(in the back 6) able to pass it forward. quickly and start a move whilst gerrard, Johnson, Cahil and Jageilka were poor

Also gerrard had a shocking game for me, if he plays like this in the world cup he will hurt england more than help them. Against Italy he has to be quicker on the ball

Gerrard hasn't got a lot to prove whereas Henderson needs to show international quality.

I like him but there's no magic there. No quick turns, clever passes, dribbles, tricks, etc.

I've got home from the match and the best bit was when someone threw a paper airplane from basically the top top row and into one of the Peru players head...

Lallana was good IMO and Sterling lit up the game a bit as well...

Gerrard hasn't got anything to prove because he captain stevie and people think the sun shines out his arse

As for henderson I do remember some decent turns and clever passes(like the one to put lallana through and one or two others). There was short decent dribbles.

I read that after the match his passing was poor and Gerrards was good yet Henderson had a better passing accuracy and in the opposition half his passing accuracy was 10% better.

That's been true for some time now. If we do play 4-3-3 I wouldn't mind seeing a three of Lallana - Sturridge - Sterling. Might as well blood the youngsters and show that league form can be rewarded.

It'll be in Miami so it'll be at an even slower pace than usual for England.

Brilliant that wasn't it...particularly as the crowd were willing it along for about 30 seconds then went crazy when the player got it on the head ha

Agree about Sterling - Lallana was good in parts too - very good feet but just wish he had that extra yard of pace. Thought Wilshere and Barkley looked pretty lively and Henderson solid.

As much as I hate to say it, i'd properly drop Rooney and Keep Wellbeck in. The pace of Sturridge, Sterling and Wellbeck on the counter excites me a lot more to be honest.
