I know it's unpopular but he can be coached to play RB.
The idea of Dier getting turned by a pacey winger is the stuff of nightmares, with out system we need a right back who can get up and down the line quickly, which sadly Dier does not posses

Is there an option for neither? I don't think he excels at anything. Good squad player, massively overrated.

I definitely think there's merit until waiting until next season to see his true worth, he's probably the player who's suffered the most this season what with the the World Cup and the long term injury he had this season, I think the break will do him good.

I'm hoping that the new situation of our midfield allows Poch to convince him to give CB another go, before he felt it was his best chance to make the england team but he was benched for the world cup and with Stones playing like dogshit I hope he can see an opening there.

When he plays and plays well he sets the tone for the team. ? commitment and better on the ball than most remember.

Seems to be last year's Scape goat but with his versatility and desire will hopefully continue to be a key part of the squad.

Decent squad player, nothing more.

Handy player to bring on when NDombele, Winks or Sissoko are tired. Or when we need to shore things up.

He's too conservative to be a defensive midfielder, that remit has changed massively from a couple of years back when it was ok to just break up play and pass to the nearest player but you need a bit more to your game in that position now. He's useful in as much as he drops back when the full backs push on but that aside, he doesn't offer enough as a DM.

I also worry that by not playing as a CD for about three years now his progress in that position has stalled somewhat. I do like him though, can never doubt his commitment to the cause.

I'd like to see him get a run of games at CB. We'll need someone to take over from Jan on the left side of the CB partnership soon. Maybe Dier could be that man.

Question is though, what does he want? If he's determined to make a career as a DM then he'll need to go to a mid-table team to play regularly. Doesn't seem like he's going to be a dead cert in that position for England moving forward with the emergence of Rice and Winks.

I loved him at Centre Half during Poch's first season,

For a young lad he took no prisoners and if we can get that Dier back he could be a big player for us over the next couple seasons
