So u honestly think Tottenham Hotspur in the year 2021 while competing in the newly formed ECL should only aim for world class and elite? cuz that’s definitely attainable. lmao

That’s not what I said is it.

We should be careful what we wish for. Trippier had a bad run of form and he was hounded by fans. Doesn’t look too shabby now, and he‘s twice the player that Aurier is.
This will be unpopular but Trippier is still that same guy the fans didn’t want. He’s just in the perfect system where he’s protected by actually decent defenders around him and he has the freedom to do what he does best and attack. The same way he looked quality when he had Vertonghen, Dembele, Wanyama etc around him to save the day when he was in trouble. Same way he’d look good with England and come back to us and stink it up. Trippier is still the same man who needed Sissoko to shepherd him through games once the team declined. I’m personally begging some team in England thinks he’s changed and brings him back bc I know every relatively fast winger in the league will be pleased to see him again, especially once he’s in a regular back 4. But hey he scored that free kick in the World Cup and can cross so this will go over the heads of most.

Except if you actually watch Atletico play you can see Trippier's positioning in defence and tenacity is a whole different level from what it ever was with us. That's why Southgate used him on the left against Croatia and he did well.

I think it's not so much hate as much as frustration.

At any football club the fans always have scapegoats and they're invariably the weak links in the side. Dier, along with Winks and Sissoko, are clearly the weak links at the moment, hence they're subject to jokes and negative comments.

I doubt most of the fans who say negative stuff about those players on here genuinely hate them or wish them ill will. They just want to club to improve and are frustrated by the poor performances of those players dragging it down

Obviously you get the odd knobhead who literally boos the players and shouts at them on matchdays, but deep down I suspect most of us actually like Dier, even if we slag him off on SC. I made a joke about him in the ITK thread the other day and got a couple of negative ratings which I fully accept, but it was only a joke. I've actually got a huge amount of respect for him as a person and he's had some great moments in a Spurs shirt - I just think that, sadly, he's not good enough for us anymore beyond a rotation/backup squad player and we'd be wise to sell if we got a decent offer.
Could have fooled me with all the names and abuse thrown about.

Let's not forget when a fan harassed his brother. Our fanbase is toxic and nobody can tell me otherwise. The constant memes and jokes aren't really all that funny and if they're posted under the players' tweets or IGs, that really doesn't help matters. Steve Hitchen was constantly abused for an out of context comment. Ndombele has had countless "fat" and unfit jokes said about him. Dier was called an oaf just the other day on here. Aurier gets constant abuse. Doherty after ONE season under Mourinho gets abuse and written off. Sanchez is labelled idiotic by some.

Criticising based on performance is one thing, constant abuse is another.

With Rodon & Sanchez coming back late & the current CB hunt not providing to be as swift as we hoped, it’s looking increasingly likely that he will have to start the opening games of the season as the days tick by ?

Hopefully Rodon can show Nuno what he’s made of & therefore limit Dier to cup appearances.

Players take time to settle, we're likely to start with mostly familiar faces no matter the transfer activity

With Brighton officially selling Ben White, I really hope we are banging down their door trying to get them to buy Dier.

However terrible Dier was last year (and he was), is it not worth giving him another shot with Nuno, once he perhaps has a settled partner and proper tactics?

I know he has the brain farts in him, but there were some games towards the back end of the season he played actually quite well.

You cant doubt his commitment or motivation, i think hes worth another shot IMO

No! But sadly think he will be starting the season by the looks of things!

I don't necessarily disagree. My thought is that he might fetch a decent fee, 15-20mil and we've already got Rodon to play the 3rd CB role.

My ideal scenario is Romero in. Sanchez & Dier out and we can reinvest that into another CB. Then you can roll with Romero, New CB, Rodon & Tanganga.

If that happens I hope people give the defence time to settle and gel. Especially with no regular PL experience in any of them.

If they buy Lacroix & Romero I will certainly be patient (hell I still have hope in Lo Celso/Ndombele) but I'd be shocked if that wasn't a pretty quick improvement.

On paper yes, but the chemistry won't be there immediately. We have a new manager, new system, likely new defence. It's going to take time for it to settle. Knowing this fanbase, defeat to City and the mob comes out.

I get the narrative but how important is EPL experience? For example, Dier has more it than Rodin yet Dier seems absolutely astonished that there is a striker stood behind him waiting for a tap in from 5 yards, or less ?

20m would be an astounding bid for Dier IMO. If he’s here come September I think it’s very likely that no one moved for him at all.

We will have one potentially two without PL experience coming up against City whilst under a new manager and a new system. Dier, like him or not, has the experience of those games. I'm just saying you need a bit of stability and experience at least in the early part of the season. Rodon is young. Tanganga is young and coming off a lengthy injury. Any signings, be it Romero and Lacroix, won't be used to the PL.

Unfortunately they seem more sensible than that and they’re reportedly interested in Rodon. Although admittedly he hasn’t been given a fair chance I’d sell him for a decent fee if Brighton want to spend some of their Ben White money.
