According to ITK in the Stoke team thread Capoue isn't even in the match day team today. If believed, that is very depressing news.

None of that is any excuse to play a newby over Capoue off the bench when we need something to happen in a game.

This is a problem for me as a supporter; I want our team to be right before we start the youth train.

If we were clearly going to be ending the season mid-table, then I would not be so bothered, howevewr we are still in with a chance to finish in a high postition.

To realise this high position, I feel we need to utilise the best, most experienced players we have.

I am all for blooding the youngers, but it has to be the right timing. No point throwing away a very good position just to prove a point. Why not achieve a European spot, and if Bentaleb et al. have contributed, they are rewarded by being a fixture in the squad next year.

It's weird that the reason Sherwood gave for not playing Capoue before was that he doesn't know him. Yet he's played all of our other new signings at some point bar Paulinho due to suspension, despite Capoue's main competition being injured (Sandro). So how doesn't he know Capoue but sufficiently knows Eriksen, Lamela etc? It seems there must be another reason - maybe he'd planned to give Bentaleb some time and wasn't expecting to be asked about Capoue and that was what he said on the spur of the moment? Capoue was one of AVB's preferred players, perhaps Capoue expressed disappointment at AVB going too loudly? It already looks like Sherwood is trying to be the complete opposite of AVB, but would he really leave a player out just to make a point? Maybe he just doesn't rate him, but then he can't have seen any of the games where Capoue's played in his proper position.

Either way, it's a bit concerning three games in. One of the main sticks used to beat AVB was his marginalising of Adebayor and allowing BAE to go out on loan when we lack cover at LB. Yet Sherwood already seems to be doing the same to Capoue and he's only been in charge for three games.

I just hope Capoue is being disciplined over turning up late.
Anything else is another player being mismanaged and treated like shit.
I give up if its political infighting and backstabbing.
We should clear the hole lot(management) in the summer and bring in someone who is neutral and asses the squad based on ability.

I must say it is odd,... I really hope it is not what it appears to be -- Capoue in Sherwood's "dog house" for some reason. From the outside looking in it appears to be the same BS AVB did to Adebayor.... so now TS is gonna show Capoue who's boss? Stupid.

Capoue looked great up until his injury vs the gooners, then dropped into CD and moved around since his return from injury, now TS rubbing Bentaleb in his face. Capoue was a logical choice to start for the WBA game and is suited for today's game vs Stoke,... so we'll see...

Will TS cut off his nose to spite his face? Did he learn nothing from the mistakes AVB made? Trying to do everything opposite to AVB, tactics, selections, demeanor.... except for this, gotta have a whipping boy for some unknon reason? Just play the best 11 available Tim, don't make this complicated please. :banghead:

I would be! I think you can only begin to experiment if you're content with your position in the table. And I wouldn't be content with mid table.

Not the same as Capoue is training with the 1st team and is part of squad being on the bench. Initially thought that when stories of discipline towards players turning up late rised, it was about Capoue and Holtby as they were both bit surprisingly not used against Soton. If that was the case, Holtby is already out of the jail and Capoue might follow soon. I've no problem with such discipline, it may even be neccessary, but it shouldn't be for too long.

Capoue was one of the brighter spots earlier this season. He seemed to have a nice combination of steel and creativity and would seem perfect for the way we want to play. It is always nice to see a youngster coming through, in Bentalab, but I still find it quite strange that Capoue hasn't featured at all.

Same here, but if we were had 23 points only at this stage of the season, like Hull, then mid table is the most you could really hope for.

It makes Europe unreachable, and relegation unlikely, giving you no real choice but to work on team philosophies, or bringing through the youth.

If we ignore players of Capoue's ability in favour of yongsters then we could end mid-table. Our youth prospects obviously have talent, but you can't expect them to suddenly take us to the next level.

Is it just possible that Sherwood considers Capoue better suited to sitting deep and shielding the defence in a midfield three, rather than playing as half of a high energy midfield pairing pressing opponents higher up the pitch?

I have never seen Capoue playing in a 4-4-2 system, but Tim has in the first half against Brighton alongside Holtby; on that evidence he seems to have preferred Holtby.

How do we actually know he's "highly rated?" where does that come from?
Well I watched him play and everybody else in the youth thread on this forum agrees, he is special. One of the guys who claims to be a ex spurs coach says he is more highly rated than one of our old welsh star player was at the same age

Capoue must play....you cannot leave the comedy duo of Dawson and Vlad with no protection..

If Sherwood has personal issues with certain players he is not doing his job, Tottenham is far more important then he will ever be and he should pick the right team not who he likes ffs.

The thing is, people are thinking that because Bentaleb hasn't done anything WRONG, that somehow justifies his substitute selection over Capoue (twice) and Holtby (once). He's not done anything wrong, but he's not done anything super fantastic either, which Capoue or Holtby could potentially have done.
