Only what I read about him in the reports by Windy on COYS and those on SO during last seasons Next Gen, I believe that he put in some pretty decent performances. I used to go and watch our youngsters play quite often but am too far away these days.

This is the part I find tremendously exciting...
"AVB’s tactical foundations are based around a fluid passing game but in a strict and rigid formation. He has a track record in showing a belief that players should be selected that fit his system and not a system chosen to cater for the best players.
The possible appointment of AVB would represent a move away from Redknapp and his adaptive tactics to fit the best players in a side to Villa Boas’ approach to fit players to a system, a selection of the best team, not players."

How about this for the "creative midfield" position- VDV comes in and plays, and is rotated with a new signing such as Moutinho or Oscar?

if I recall we played 433 formation alot during that 9 week horror stretch where we dropped from 3rd spot

I thought Bale and Lennon were wasted up front and they better serve us on the wing with space in front of them, although I think Lennon was also injured for part of that time

In the nine games between beating Newcastle and beating Blackburn we played the following:

Formation | P | Pts |
442/4411 | 5 | 1
433/4231 | 4 | 5

Which doesn't tell the whole story.

Of the occasions we went 442/4411, the matches we played against Utd (L), and apparently Everton (L) (didn't see it), were good performances. Against Stoke (D), Arsenal (L), and Norwich (L) we played from poor to terribly.

Of the occasions we went 4231/433, the matches against Chelsea (D), Swansea (W), and Sunderland (D), were performances from excellent to average. Against QPR (L) we played pretty toothlessly, with Defoe as lone striker.

The only positive thing i can see with AVB is that he goes for young talent and to that extent fits Levy's vision. He clearly would not have been interested in the likes of Nelsen and Saha. He would not have tried to sign Phil Neville and to be honest he would have looked for a longer term solution than Friedel. Maybe his Portuguese persuasion would help Gomes restore confidence and bring even more out of Sandro. And as for younger talent the likes of Gio and Caulker might be given more of a look in. I think he will have learned from his experience in Chelsea that being too dogmatic about age doesn't always work and recognize the importance of Parker to the squad. But I am worried about him tactically as he appeared naive at times last year.

suggests that the chairman needs to back him when it comes to transfer targets !

RE - GilzeanKing's AVB article: I think the stand out thing is how, in offensive sense, the biggest deficiency he had in adapating his system to Chelsea, is the lack of a player of the ability and quality of Modric. I have always felt like he was absolutely promised Modric as part of his rebuilding project - but that, when push came to shove, Abrahmovich just would not go the whole way in paying for him (as opposed to previously, when he would have just blown any opposition outta the water).

I was watching just for this when he started for the Dutch in a deeper role, and while some of his passing was excellent, obviously his workrate wasn't very good, but in a triangle of three VDV next to Sandro and Parker behind them, I can get into that assuming we don't keep Modric. VDV = Lampard, Sandro = Ramires, and Parker = Mikel is analogous to what AVB started with last year. Thought I don't see a place for VDV to a wide forward if Modric stays.

Funnily enough, I was reading that and expecting it to be Carroll (not Andy ). I thought Pritchard had a bad injury and was struggling to recover - or have I got confused on that one?

It is tremendously exciting if AVBs walk matches his talk, I really hope it does because then we could be on to something here - that's the stuff I want to be reading from my Spurs manager, hope it translates onto the field.

Saw him in the NextGen U19s game vs Liverpool, he showed some nice touches, head up and looking for a pass but he did struggle a tad up against Lolpools physical superiority over us, but in a way that doesn't bother me and encourages me. They'll learn to compete against that but I liked the way we kept on trying to play, heads up, passing and moving.

Massimo Luongo looked a decent player, bit of a busy **** it seems so someone will be pleased.

Don't think he has been injured, from what I have read him and Munns are the really rated midfielders. This from Spurs idol on SO who has obviously seen him play in several games.

Pritchard played as the left hand attacking midfield player of 3 in a 4231 in most of the NextGen games - although seemed to be further back in the Liverpool game. Very skillfull but small - possibly smaller than Carroll - but not afraid to run rings around larger players which he did very successfully in a number of the NextGen games.

Most of the first team could learn from his set pieces. Scored 4 goals in the 7 NextGen matches.

Made the bench for one or two of the Europa League matches last season - would like to see him take some part in this season's Europa League matches or domestic cups. Maybe a loan out next season? But with his size needs to be in a midfield with taller players - otherwise will find himself in Carroll's position of playing less than he should (Derby last season loan)

Having Vertonghen and Kaboul as CB's would allow us to play the higher line. There is so much about AVB's philosophy that I like, I just hope that if he comes in, he is able toy implement it.

We already know that we are best in a 433 and when we press the ball, I think we are riper for AVB than some think.

Can we play a highline if Friedel is the goalkeeper? He's a statue back there sometimes, I can't imagine him being a sweeper.

I knew he was highly rated. Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else from the younglings who had a bad injury - there's so many of the wee beggars, there days

I quite liked what I saw of Carroll, too. If AVB comes in and brings these typeof players through, I believe it will be very positive for the club.

But with only 1 of Sandro & Parker (if what is said about his preferred style is true)? For that to work he needs a shift out of VDV, Modric, Bale and Lennon off the ball that they've very rarely produced before and never consistently (even in 1 game).

That, if it happens at all, is not gonna happen overnight.

I agree about 433 for us but I worry about AVB implementing a dry and prescriptive system that doesn't get the best out of the players. Bale and Mod especially need a boot up the arse off the ball, I just don't think Mod will ever be a great presser/off the ball defender. Sandro AND Parker allow us to dominate games from midfield and give Mod a bit more licence to do his thang without too many worries.

Do you think he'll play Sandro and Parker (Livermore) together very often?
