So the four nations football tournament has been given the green light.

Rep of Ireland
Northern Ireland
Wales
Scotland

To be honest, I would really lvoe to see this, maybe even 5 or 6 nations like the Rugby.

Might actually bring some love back to the whole international arena, rather than the current plight of Club before Country.

I am sure, should England be in the tournament, it would actually help the team get better...

Anyway, even without England, I would still love to see this go ahead.

I remember, back in the day, when Spurs players littered the fixture...

Jennings v Greaves
(Mike) England v Gillie
Kinnear v u get the idea.

I liked that - but it was never live on the bleeding telly !

good news! cant see it being as much of an occasion as the six nations to start off, but i would imagine if it is a success (ie sponsership) that england would want to be a part of it in the near future.

Until that happens though i think we (Wales) have got a good chance of winning.

Its something id probably go to watch, home and away

i actually read this as a rugby story somehow, probably because of the '4 nations' headline, and found a couple of problems with it, like Ireland are one nation in rugby not Rep and Norn, it would have been at the same time as the 6 nations...

then i realised it was football. shit.

surely though Republic of Ireland would win though? they have the strongest team as well as teh fact they are their own country wheras the other three nations are part of larger country

How are they going to do it? Will they play the tournament in the summer or a game every few months?

Exactly my thinking werty.

I'd say they'll have a couple of games every few months, although over the summer could work equally as well, with each team playing each other once, and the top two playing off for the trophy?

If it is to go ahead and just be on over the summer I can see the first tournament being in the new Aviva Stadium. Well, I'm hoping it is anyway.

We`re well out of it.

I used to absoloutely love the home internationals. I was lucky enough to be at wembley for an England Scotland home international the first season that Scotland were band (around 1979ish) - it did have an impact only 60,000 Scots got in that day.

I really hope that they get them going again and as a jock, for me it wouldn't be the same without England in there too.

You'd rather the meaningless facile friendlies they play now with 8 substitutions a half ?

I actually agree with BC on something!

Replacing meaningless friendlies with a home nations tourney could only benefit British football. Players will really have something to play for, and the crowd something to cheer for.

I for one am not interested in watching the meaningless friendlies with eight substitutions, but England v Scotland to see who wins the title would be worth paying for a plane ticket let alone pay per view.

Does anyone know why England aren't in it?

i think the people in charge of the FA believe they'd make more money playing prestige friendlies elsewhere, ones they might miss out on if they signed up to a home nations tournament for X amount of years. other than that they believe it would be a walk in the park and waste of time

England are not in due to fixture congestion, but I personally reckon that could easily be gotten around.

It gives England a chance to use 'different' players as such.

It's a shame, cos I think it would be amazing to have this, I love international football and I love England almost as much as spurs, if not equally.

Anyway, i'd still pay to watch the other nations play.

I can onyl see this as a benefit for each nation, shame England are not involved.

This will be rubbish because it contains 4 of the most rubbish nations to watch.

rubbish? you jest surely?

theres nothing better than seeing james collins/richard dunne/jonny evans/steven caldwell repeatedly hoofing the ball 60 yards!

i think it would be a good thing for the nations involved. lots of banter with fans and the players.
