England, Wales and other European nations are in talks over whether to proceed with their plans for their captains to wear a OneLove armband at the World Cup in Qatar. The captains of nine nations, including England's Harry Kane and Gareth Bale of Wales, had planned to wear the armband to promote diversity and inclusion. But they have been warned by Fifa officials that wearing the armband would be a breach of its rules and risk a "sporting sanction" for captains, such as a booking.

This week, chief executive Mark Bullingham told BBC Sport that the FA was willing to take a fine, but the feeling within the governing body is that the prospect of a booking and suspension has put players in an impossible position.

i guess the act of defiance, as always, comes down to those with the most to lose - the people.

Fuck 'em. Bring the whole squad home. A chance to make a statement about what's acceptable in the modern World and they completely bottle it, the spineless fuckers.

Won't happen of course.

Is it normal to hear Blue - One Love start playing in your head every time you see that slogan?

It's kinda funny how life can change
Can flip 180 in a matter of days
Sometimes love works in mysterious ways
One day you wake up gone without a trace

I refused to give up
I refused to give in…oh
You're my everything
I don't wanna give up
I don't wanna give in, oh no
Everybody sings

One love - for the mother's pride
One love - for the times we cried
One love - gotta stay alive
I will survive
One love - for the city streets
One love - for the hip-hop beats
One love, Oh I do believe
One love is all we need

Late at night I'm still wide awake
Feel this is far more than I can take
I thought my heart could never break
Now I know that's one big mistake

I refused to give up
I refused to give in…oh
You're my everything
I don't wanna give up
I don't wanna give in, oh no
Everybody sings

One love - for the mother's pride
One love - for the times we cried
One love - gotta stay alive
I will survive
One love - for the city streets
One love - for the hip-hop beats
One love, Oh I do believe
One love is all we need

Baby, just love me love me love me
Baby, just hold me hold me hold me

Oh, love me love me love me, Oooh
One love - for the mother's pride
One love - for the times we cried
One love - gotta stay alive
I will survive
One love - for the city streets
One love - for the hip-hop beats
One love, Oh I do believe
One love is all we need

You really think Kane is going to miss a world cup over a armband, LOL!

Such an easy thing to say when you haven't been spending your whole life building up to play for your country at a World cup. I do wonder how many that are criticising would happily risk the chance of a lifetime to make a point. I mean the history books mention such a small number of names of people that actually do stand up and be counted when they trully have something to lose, because it's very very few that when push comes to shove will actually go that extra mile.

I mean I'm sure you've more than played your part at risk to your own self/livelihood,. Perhaps you could tell us what you've risked in the cause of social injustice?

People make sacrifices every day, sometimes with their lives, and I don't think footballers make many. I don't really expect them to put anyone or anything ahead of themselves though, sadly.

So what examples could you give of what you've risked?

Compleeeetly different though. Footballers go into football because they love the game, not to be political pawns, role models to kids, or to heal the world. The fact they earn what they do does not mean they should be put on some sort of pedestal where they should be some sort of shining moral example to the world. They are literally just like those on a Saturday down on Hackney marshes, but better at it. I doubt streams of people are shouting at them from the touchlines to be a moral example to the world because they love to kick a bag of wind about.

As Edmund Burke said, ' All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing'.

We could still make a statement! Let Harry Maguire wear the armband, then see if they book him, if he gets a second yellow and is sent off, it's no big deal.
