And As Trix said.... 'So what examples could you give of what you've risked?'

I don't really see how that's relevant. I did serve in the Army but I don't suppose that counts as much since I never got shot or injured.

My point is why are footballers being held to such high moral standards that those criticising wouldn't live up to in their own every day lives? When you were in the army would you have worn something making a political statement visibly on the outside of your uniform even when it went against regulation, and you'd have certainly faced disciplinary action for doing so?

I agree with Trix - but, I do think the FA's caved a little too easily here.

Yes, there was certainly a threat of players receiving an unnecessary yellow card - but, on the other hand, do you really think FIFA or Qatar really wanted that to become the predominate talking point of the World Cup?

My personal view is that the various FAs really wanted nothing to do with the protest arm-bands - and if they were serious, they would have just done it, without the pre-Cup publicity, and would have risked the players getting cards. Instead, they made it know - thus putting their position on record, without having to go against FIFA or the Qatar organizers.

Its not the players fault that FIFA are corrupt and chose a disgusting place with medieval views to host the world cup. It should have been decided long ago that it shouldn’t have gone ahead here, then we wouldn’t be having the armband conversation.

Absolutely, and if they made a stand it would put FIFA and the FA in the spotlight too for their complicity in the whole sordid affair. As usual though, as with most things of this sort of magnitude, I expect it to all be swept under the carpet and things to carry on exactly as before.

England won 6-2, i just thought i'd let everyone know as i believe no one was watching due to issues they have with Qatars human rights record.

Why should it be the players taking a stand and not staff at FIFA and all the national associations (some of whom voted in favour of Qatar hosting)?

As if anyone thinks England walking away fron the world cup would make a difference to what they do in Qatar. Let's throw our way of life aside because England didn't play our tournament

The players would be telling the faceless bureaucrats who've trousered God knows how much in back-handers that it's not OK to sign them up for shit like this. Nobody gives a fuck what the staff at FIFA say because they've all got their snouts buried in the trough as it is.

The Iranian players risked their lives by not singing the anthem. They understood that it was their duty to make a statement on this world stage, whatever the risks to themselves. I have nothing but admiration for them.

Meanwhile kane and southgate have endorsed this world cup and everything rotten it stands for.

So you guys think only countries exhibiting certain western values should get to host a world cup? Okay, let's also rename it to the western cup since we're at it then. Some of you sound just as imperialistic as the England from 5 centuries ago, it's just the nature of the empire you're trying to impose what's sort of different now.

They missed a trick, an armband should have been part of the shirt for all the players, the captains armband could then be worn alongside it. It’s part of the shirt so can’t be taken off.

Nah, just countries with basic human rights for all. If you don’t understand the situation, why even comment.
