We never had both under Redknapp. We relied on individual star players in form then, only Redknapp had more of them with VdV getting goals and assists and Modric making killer passes to set up assists.

It was never a coordinated style of football, and often times it wasn't aesthetically pleasing either. When it clicked it looked great, sure, but the many times it didn't click, we were subject to a lack of ideas, cutting edge and the inevitable pot shots from 20 yards in the hope of striking lucky.

Sorry but this just isn't true. Thirty years supporting Spurs and Harry's team was by a country mile the best to watch.

Any 3-0 away win is a good win. Hope team is slowly adapting to AVB's coaching.

Having actually watched the entire match, as opposed to seeing the result and assuming that we had murdered Fulham, I find it very difficult to know what to make of it.

Exactly.

The first half was dreadful, the second not much better. We were just very ruthless with our chances which is very very un-Spurs.

Joint 3rd and not playing very well...dunno what to make of it. Under Harry we played some great football but became very predictable in the patterns of play and found ourselves wanting when it came to creativity and cutting edge in the end.

Now under AVB we seem to have lost the excellent ball retention we had but somehow we are just taking chances and winning games. When everyone is back maybe the defence will be tighter and we have more options and competition meaning things will click and we will play better.

I dunno...its the age old debate isn't it, Man United dont have a particular style or any pizzazz about them but they get the job done and their fans are happy because they win games and win trophies...without being very easy on the eye. At Spurs there has always been the traditional of playing the Spurs way but for the last 25 years it hasn't really brought us much success.

Like davidmatzdorf said ...we are doing great and it was a good win today because Fulham created nothing, but its a bit worrying because it does feel like it won't take much for us to lose that clinical side and lose games like today. Obviously I am a big AVB supporter and back him and the team but I am not getting carried away like some twat on the radio saying he thinks we will be 2nd ha ha ha

This thread should reread by everybody from start to finish. We are so fickle. Slagging all in sundry off then praising them a minute later. Its nearly funny.

Great away win - I thought we would get nothing - I was wrong.

AVB comes out mid-week and lauds Defoe as being as good as Falcao, Defoe comes out and scores two today taking him to 1 goal off the top scorers in the PL this season who cost £25m each. Coincidence or good man-management?

We're still seriously lacking in creativity as a result of some poor decisions in the transfer window. Great result, but we are in serious need of a creative player in the middle of the park or further forward. The January transfer window is going to be massive.

Then again I say that every year :D

I know what to make of it - WE WON! By a convincing scoreline no less. With our preferred RCB off injured early on, our main attacking threat and star player off injured later in the game and still with at least 3 key players injured or suspended.

For a team in transition we are grinding out results. The quality of football will improve as we bond more. Redknapp didn't have us playing attractive football right from the off, it was as the squad grew together and learned how to play under him that this happened. Same will happen, and better, under AVB IMO.

Agree with this, and we keep forgetting, if AVB had Modric and VDV available to him we would play far better football on the eye. We miss both but this isnt AVBs team yet. He wanted Willian and Mouthinho, and can you imagine them in our team right now. Willian is the one i want most, could replace Bale if he got injured, but could mainly play a free role behind the Striker.

Good man management from AVB but I don't think that was why Defoe scored twice today. AVB compared him to Falcao before the Liverpool game and Defoe did nothing that match. He's just confident and is enjoying a run in the team being the main main which is partly down to AVB's man management.

Thirty years of watching Spurs and you should know that we never had a tactically astute manager in that time.

Yes, Redknapp's side was entertaining but that was more by default than design. I take nothing away from Redknapp and the job he did but when we were, at that time, without VDV or Modric we looked bereft of ideas. Even times with them we were predictable and failed to unlock sitting defences like Wolves.

Point being Redknapp didn't tell them to play a certain way, he told them to play as they liked and that got us to a certain level. With direction, I believe a lesser team can go further.

Ade comes back in the side and we will start looking pretty so being a bit dull at the moment isn't too much to worry about. The important thing is that the core of the side has now learn't to be effective without a focal point, we are attacking as a team and pressing as a team. We've got the basics nailed down and can start building on the jazzy side of the game. Contrast this to the start of the season when no one really knew where they were meant to be playing or what they should be doing. It was just something that would need time and well done to AVB for making it through the first pain period. Minus a few blips its going to be on the up from here on in.

Rewatching the match on FoxSoccer, Did we use the Rafa's song for Mousa Dembele? Since I've watched most of our games on a stream I really haven't noticed this but it seemed like we did it a few times.

United have lost a bit of fizz in the past two seasons but for the most part of the past 15 years they have had plenty of style and pizazz. It's underpinned with a steel resilience though.
