A player that’s constantly injured
A player that’s on an obscene amount of money
A player massively on a downward spiral

Yes he was once our hero, he’s not that player anymore

We can do so much better with our resources
A player that is the complete opposite to Contes high intensity pressing system

Would anyone want him if he hadn’t played for us before?

No!!
If someone had managed 11 goals & 3 assists in 21 PL games (only 872 mins) for one of our rivals last season, would anyone want them on free transfer?

I think the answer is a clear yes. The fact that someone did it for us, while playing with most of our current squad, should make it an even clearer yes.

Plenty of people were keen for us to splash £40m on Adama Traore (2 goals & 3 assists in 37 PL games / 2643 mins) or £30m on Ings (12 goals & 4 assists in 29 games / 2169 mins). It's a fact that Bale was more productive than either, so to suggest no-one should want him on a free transfer is slightly ludicrous.

No, I don't.
Makes little sense to re-employ an aged player whose wage demand is unacceptable for at least two reasons.
Firstly it exceeds the pay of all others....if he wants to return he plays by the rules...he mustn't be allowed to make demands.
Secondly. His weekly pay is an obscenity. No-one, especially a footballer of advanced years, already rich beyond imagination, should receive in a year what a Covid nurse would work 9 years for.
No. Not him. Reduce waste employ young talent.

I meant... what he gets in a month takes a nurse 9 years!!!

Well yes. That's true for every player in the world.
Not necessarily. For example, Jol probably didn't care much either way when we signed Bale the first time, and I think in those instances it's less important that the current manager wants a player at the club, than the expectations of the scouts about the player's potential

As per @Spurs 1961

But if Gareth could teach even one player in the squad, half his technique on the ball, happy days. Even at half power he was a class above most.

Everytime I doubted him he did something class. Like an inch perfect cross into the box with the outside of his boot at walking pace.

But if our current manager, assuming we plan on keeping him for a few years, objects to us signing a young kid with huge potential (like Mourinho probably would) then why sign him? It might mean we miss out on someone great but the manager won't help to develop that player and would most likely stagnate on the fringes of the squad. If we have a manager we want then ANY signing over the age of 18-19 has to have his approval. In Jol's case he was obviously happy for us to sign someone he could develop.

He was amazing when he was amazing last season, it’s so hard he could be the best player in the league he could be the most expensive flop ever as well
