He had an excellent career, he was a special special talent but he was a flawed genius and ultimately he is a wasted talent because he should have had a career to match the best of the best

The world cup 90 and the seasons either side of it - wow, Gazza was the best player I have seen live in a Spurs shirt them times

Moments like his school boys own free kick against Arsenal and his strike against Scotland in Euro 96 are worthy of any highlight reel

But the said thing about his career when all is set and done is he's remembered most for having his balls grabbed by Vinnie Jones, Crying at the World Cup, Getting injured in the cup final, a dentist chair, claiming to be challenged at darts with the pope and brining fish and chips to Raul Moat when a player of his ability should have been remembered for winning league title after league title, CL and even World cups for me he was special in the league of Maradonna

He certainly proves the theory of the thin line between genius and insanity! I absolutely loved Gazza as a player and he is what I think of when I first remember supporting Spurs! The 1990 version of him would be worth about 100 million in today's market.

Welled up just watching the trailer...

The man was a genius - No question.

Tragically however, genius so often comes at a price.

Was lucky enough to be at Wembley for that, sat a few seats away from Bobby Charlton, with Skinner and Baddiel behind me!

Amazing goal. We were all still celebrating Seaman saving McAllister's penalty when it happened.

If he'd gone to Utd he probably would have achieved the success his talent deserved.

Sadly I agree

I've heard him say the same actually in interviews

To an extent I think he was let down by el tel's weak management and failure to control him

He should be up there with the likes of Pele, maradona, best, cruff etc but sadly he never reached that level despite having all the ability and drive in the world

What a fantastic player. Remember meeting him years ago when I was a young Player and he was at rangers. The things he could do with a ball even in the warm up was unbelievable. The fans he made stand and anticipate his every move! Edge of the seat stuff. The moments of joy he brought to our club. Love the guy to bits and I hope I am wrong but I really dont know how he will do when coping with this film. He obviously struggled with his demons after football was finished for him. Hope it does not open fresh wounds!

Loved Gazza but I only just started following football in 1991 so I missed most of his performances for us. Would have loved to have witnessed the 89-90 and 90-91 seasons in particular.

He is an iconic player because of the way he raised his game and produced magic on the big stages. For club and country.

Two of those moments - the free-kick in the SF vs Arsenal and the goal in Euro 96 vs Scotland - are almost certainly in the top 5 Spurs moments & top 5 England moments in their lifetime, for people my age.

That probably says a lot about Spurs and England's performances over the last 25 years, but it also so clearly paints a picture of firstly the genius of the man, and secondly how stuttered his career was.

I just wish we'd all been able to see more of him at his peak... a peak interrupted by bad injury and, thereafter, the well publicised off-the-field personal problems.

Without those issues he would have been the best attacking midfielder of his generation in the World, I am sure of it.

i am still thinking why one of our lads didnt pull him aside in that Cup Final and say 'settle down mate - you are going to get sent off or something'. That injury set him back in his prime.

My old man said the exact same thing to me as we sat watching the game...
