Now that Harry is gone, do you think the new manager would decide to keep him and put him as first choice? After all, Harry doesn't use him because he has a policy of 'piss me off and you never play again'.

I think you might find Harry's policy was closer to every other managers policy. Throw enough into your own net and you'll never play again. If he could cut out the silly errors he'd be one of the best in the world.

He never "threw it into his own net" and the number of goals that were down to him were low. Compare that to the number of times he saved us. Friedel has been okay and he's made a few good stops but he seems to take a very low risk attitude so that when he concedes it doesn't look like he's done anything wrong because he didn't do anything at all. It's easy not to make a mistake when you don't take a chance. So many times we needed a keeper that was willing to come out for crosses, how many of the goals we conceded came from crosses last season?

A confident Gomes is a quality keeper. If we fail to sign a top quality keeper this summer I would be happy to see Gomes sign a new contract and at least challenge Friedel this season.

That is a big if, to be fair he did have one great season, but the last season was dire. Forty years old Friedel was an improvement and that is sad.

Didn't we take up the option we had to extend his deal by another year? Was hoping he might learn how to catch the ball this season by watching and training with Friedel.

I think it's probably best for both club and player to part ways.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out. I've no doubt that Gomes is a quality keeper but his confidence took a battering here (which was partly his own fault) and I don't think he impressed Harry with his apparent 'injury proneness' in some games. I remember a couple of occassions where he wanted to come off, but the coaching staff weren't having it, and he ended up playing the full 90...

Good luck to him. He wasn't the first good player not to make it here - and he won't be the last....

if the next manager wants to last 3 months then yes he will play him from the offset. Gomes is a liability and it has not much to do with whether he pissed HR off. Were Gomes such a special keeper he would have been snapped up by now by another club in January or in this window. it says a great deal that we went in for Friedel when Gomes was available. Gomes like bentley and a few others have no future left at spurs and this is purely speculative on my part.

Isnt he out injured for ages, so wont be playing for us or anyone else? (have seen it posted a few times)

Would be nice if the club/official site let us know stuff like this once in a while.

It's easy not to make a mistake when you don't take a chance.

I'd say the goalkeeping position in a football team is the place where you want to take the least number of risks.

He's been an upgrade on Gomes - even simply down to the amount of confidence he gives the defence and, more influentially, the crowd. The number of fans (notably, idiots) that would jeer Gomeas catching a ball would be ridiculous.

Friedel didn't get that once. Mainly because he didn't throw the ball into his net, but that's by the by. Gomes had great games, but he also had a particularly bad season for 2010/2011 - that never lived up to the season before. And arguably cost us more than he saved us - which isn't the ratio for Bradders.

He was rightly replaced by someone who was steadier, gave the defence a confidence boost and didn't take as many risks.

We simply don't have the 2010 Gomes. We have the 2012 Gomes. We should get over it and move on.

He is a complete liability, therefore I say no. I don't care how many good saves he makes or how much he comes off his line if he ends up making a big fool out of himself and wrecking a good team performance with a moment of utter stupidity, this scenario being repeated is sadly now a certain case of when, rather than if.

I am so done with Heurelho.

Agree. I hope the new man will give Gomes a chance.

That is your opinion. He had more than one great season. In fact he is a very good keeper who had one poor season and is made scapegoat by his manager and a large section of Spurs fans.

We conceded more than three goals in a game how many times last season? I am not saying frediel had a poor season. I am saying to claim he is so much better than Gomes is an outright exaggeration.

Friedel is not better than Gomes...what Friedel is is more reliable at the basics, meaning the defence in front of him can relax a bit, and not be filled with constant anxiety if, for instance, they have to pass the ball back, under pressure.

Ultimately, what it means is that Gomes will concede net more goals than Gomes, but the team will concede net less goals with him in it.
