I think this post is interesting but on the league cup and europa league -What, like one sitting second in the league, which only recently wiped the floor with us?
I think it's time to realise that some of the managers we've had a giggle about in the past, are actually quite good and just needed that perfect blend of environment and time to thrive - Ole, Rodgers, MOYES.
Let's end this embarassing notion that we are somehow entitled to be perceived better than other teams who were traditionally below us. West Ham and Leicester have had a tremendous season for example and deserve all the credit they get.
As does Ole. The progress he's made with United this season is simply astounding. We smashed them 6-1 in October (we were ten places apart in our favour) and didn't get near them in April (with Utd close to 20 points ahead of us).
The League Cup is a fantastic piece of silverware for us.
The Europa League isn't beneath us by any stretch of the imagination.
I mean who the hell are Tottenham to be saying such things. We have got one trophy in the last 20 years+ and yet we dare say that Kane shouldn't play for this or that manager?
This cup final has been a real eye-opener for me - Kane did fuck all in this final, and the CL final, and the previous League Cup final under Poch. And yet this has turned into the "poor Kane who deserves better" story. HOW THE F... DOES HE DESERVE BETTER? He has had more opportunity to win trophies with us than most porfessional footballers do in their entire careers. And he failed time and again.
I've just had it up to here with the poor Kane point of view. He is just as to blame as the rest.
the runner-up's prize money is £50,000 for the league cup. £100,000 for the winner.
That paid wink's salary for the week, but that's about it.
Pep probably stuck his cheque in a charity tin on the way home.
Largely these are not competitions that are going to pay their way. And they cost too, as there is little doubt we'd be on a higher points total without them.
You might ask, so what if these competitions are not recognised as being of value by the advertisers, TV companies, sponsors, domestic neutral fans and overseas fans.
This is just a way for the rich premiership teams to put something back into the lower divisions, and eastern europe. And it potentially gives you a lovely day out at wembley/Baku.
That is fair enough - there is strong moral duty. But I'd be more comfortable about discharging our responsibilities here if we were qualifying for the CL and weren't £1b in debt.
