Been following the trial closely, will be VERY surprised if either of them get a guilty verdict.

I don't know. Redknapp's news of the world interview where he states "the money was a bonus for Crouch's transfer" as well as it just plain looking like a bonus to Redknapp means that he's backed into a corner.

Blustered his way out by saying he was lying to the news of the world reporter, but why would he lie to him? Why would he tell the reporter it was a bonus payment for Crouch's transfer if this wasn't the case?

That and Mandaric and Redknapp's defences seemed to be at odds most of the time, each telling a different story. I just don't know what will happen, can't imagine how Redknapp's feeling!

Don't get me wrong, I hope he gets off scot free! Might not be the most moral victory but we need our manager!

Why do you say that fiery? We've had kids getting locked up for nicking a pair of trainers, if proved guilty Harry's nicked tens of thousands. If he'd walked into HMRC and taken the money from a safe, do you think it would have been worse?

Having said that I don't feel any particular moral outrage with him if he's found guilty, it's just I'm not going to get morally outraged at him being put in prison - if it happens - either.

And who's "them" btw? Isn't he being judged by a jury of ordinary people?

Kids getting locked up for nicking trainers is what the country demanded.
Harry and everybody else involved couldve/shouldve been sorted without resorting to a 12 day court case, especially when Harrys defence is that he`s stupid. He can afford to pay any tax owing.
Im not one of Harrys fans, i appreciate the good times but wont cry when he finally fucks off.
"Them" refers to The Man who sees fit to let multi nationals, for whatever reason, pay what they like but has hounded an individual who apparently owes the equivalent of 1 years benefits to some family.
If he`s really getting judged by ordinary people they should acquit him.

Probably been said before but what is the difference between a banker being given a bonus, a utility boss being given a bonus and a football manager being given a bonus?

I bet the banker at RBS hasn't paid 50% tax on his 'winnings'.

That's the quandary beset by the Government when it puts pressure on the Chief Exec of X Bank to forego a hefty annual bonus for achieving targets within a loss making financial year because the Government then has to write off a sizeable contribution in tax from the bonus.

Thing is that's really irrelevant. H doesn't have to prove what the money was actually for. The prosecution have to prove that tax was due on it(ie it was a bonus) I've not seen anything to prove this.

I get the impression that even if the jury do come back with a verdict today (unlikely), the judge will defer sentencing until a later date. Considering the vast range of punishments possible, i can't see it being an easy task working out their sentencing.

Even my Arsenal supporting boss thinks Harry will walk - 'they have proved nothing from what I have read' was his words, he is right.

He'll walk away an innocent man. Today :)

I hope and think that you are right nobchops. However my main concern is his credibilty. It's that News of the World interview where he has lied to Rob Beasley about what the payment was for. I understand what Harry is saying about he can lie to Rob Beasley, but wouldn't lie in court, but takiing my Spurs glasses off for a minute, how is a jury going to view this? Does it not cast doubt on his credibilty?

Personally I think dicking around with the press and mugging them off means that his character is flawless.

NOTW is a discredited paper as are their journalists so Harry will be believed IMHO over a writer for a newspaper that deletes phone messages of dead schoolgirls

If Harry had lied to someone from the Telegraph for example then it would be different.

Beasleys evidence couldnt have come at a better time for Harrys corner, in light of what has happened to the NOTW, I'd imagine that the jury will not take it too seriously

He pays what he wants.....he pays what he waaaaants...

It has just occurred to me. How did the prosecution establish that 150,000 dollars was paid as a bonus of 5% of the 3,000,000 pounds profit on Crouch?

5% of 3,000,000 pounds is 150,000 pounds not 150,000 dollars (£96,000)

What happened to the other £54,000 of his 'bonus'?
