I was at the game yesterday and it's prompted me to start an appreciation thread for our incredible manager Poch. We slate our team and managers so often when it doesn't go to plan but Poch really deserves such huge credit and appreciation.

The way our team weathered the initial 10 minute storm and 1-0 deficit to come back and not only win but win comfortably is testament to our players but mostly to our manager who has installed a belief and resilience in our players, club, fans as well as giving our team a clear identity, style of play and tactical structure. We got it spot on yesterday and Southampton couldn't cope, we looked on another level the first 10 minutes aside.

Ok that is his job you might say but easier said than done as we we'll know having been through endless managers over the last 20 years or so. A minority few may not agree with the way we play and suggest too much backwards or sideways passing but more often than not we 'dominate' games which is why our defence is so good as we usually restrict our opponents to little attacking opportunities and wear teams down with our possession play, another reason why we score a lot of goals in the final qtr of the match(Just like Fergies Utd teams used to do).

That is a brilliant base to build from, Potch has then brilliantly assessed the squad and those who don't cut it mentally or technically are moved on, no excuses. His man management has been excellent especially with new players like Son when he wanted to leave and Sissoko by dropping him to give him a kick up the arse.

As Danny Rose said 'Poch is the only manager who's actually spent time to improve me as a left-back'. What the hell were the previous managers doing?!!! But look at how good and consistent Walker and Rose are now compared to 3,4,5 seasons ago!! The improvement is staggering to be honest.

Let's be honest here finances make a huge difference in football and we've really been behind the 4 clubs above us and Man.Utd for the entirity of the premier league and not just a litttle bit I'm taking a big margin with regards to revenue and transfer fees and wages. Levy is working hard to close that gap off the pitch and Poch is doing an amazing job on it to make us punch above our weight and now consistently compete with these teams. So much so that opposing fans see the league as having a super top6 who are on another level! I'm impressed we're now part of that as in the past there was the top4 and we scrapped our way to 5-8th finishes but points and gd and quality wise we were really no where near the top4's level. Hence why we pretty much always lost to them, that is most certainly not the case now!

I know we've not won anything yet but I really think that will come the way this squad is developing and that is 100% down to our manager. It's refreshing watching us knowing how we will play and knowing the players all buy into this way of playing and working together as a team.

We had a fairly slow start to the season and the CL was a learning curve but were in a strong position in the league and I'm hopeful we can really give one of the two cups were left in a really good go.

The recent home wins against the lower teams and now away win vs Southampton yesterday are all games Spurs of the past would've messed up at least one of them would've been a draw or even a stupid loss, but the chances of that now happening are slimer due to our team having a structure, clear plan week in week out against whoever we play. Poch and our young team are still learning but how he's got us performing with the resources he's had deserves such huge credit!!

HES MAGIC YOU KNOW!!! And I bloody love the guy!!

Love him and everything he has done for us, really hope he is in it for the long haul and builds a dynasty, the foundations are there I think.

An argument could be made that he is on a par with Simeone and Mourinho as the best defensive coach - both individually and collectively - in Europe at the moment. His ability to extract defensive brilliance out of players that previously had their flaws and limitations really is, dare i say it, magic.

But he manages to do it without compromising on the attacking ability or flair of the team and the forward players, as evidenced by our excellent scoring and chance creation record from last season.

I'm confused, he's either magic or he needs to take a long hard look at himself.

Make up your mind SC :p

I was very critical of him in the other thread, but after a very poor run of form and results we seem to have turned it around and are very much back on track. For the first time this year, in the last two matches we have looked like last season's Spurs, if we win the next two I think the Title will be on.

Very good point there and one that only struck me last week. Under Poch we don't lose matches we might have lost in previous years and we rarely draw matches we might have won. On the contrary, we usually win matches we might have drawn - Burnley being a prime example.

And for a man who's supposedly not proactive with his substitutions, putting on Son when he did in order to try and kill off Southampton was exactly the right move at the right time. And that would still have been the case even if Son hadn't scored one and created another.

Turned it around results wise but lets be honest with each other, the football is still laregely turgid AVB stuff. This negative football infuriates me. We have a good squad. Lets use it to the best of its abilities please.

Also, there is zero chance this thread would have been made if we let one in yeaterday after they went down to 10 men like it looked.

We still draw ALOT of matches because the turgid grind it out style of Pochettino dictates it. He needs to open it up more.

Personally I cannot understand this point of view. At all. There's no way we play anything like 'AVB stuff' that's just a massive lazyism as is the view that our football is turgid and negative. You must be watching clips of us from the 90's or something :D

We've a goal difference amongst the highest in the league, only a handful of teams have scored more goals than us and then not by all that many really and we're there or there abouts with regard most chances created in the division. If we're turgid and negative the rest of the league must be the best cure for insomnia ever found.

Its time to wonder if the substance you're sniffing is actually doing you any good. Buuuut, you're entitled to your opinion....even if its wronger than Mr Wrong McWrong sorting through a bag of wrongness to make some wrong pie.

I put it down to the fact he's only been watching the sport for a few seasons, he actively wants Poch sacked...it'd be funny if it wasn't so ridiculous.
I still wake up screaming some nights.
The 90s.....the horror, the horror.

Oh I get it - Poch is 'magic' until we lose the next match and then he needs 'to take a long hard look at himself' stop 'overtraining' players and play Dier instead of Wanyama :ROFLMAO:

I was really impressed with what seemed like a tweaked formation last night with Eriksen tasked with dropping a bit deeper and linking things up - it made a big difference to our creativity and movement compared to how we've struggled in the past being too static against teams defending deep. Equally, Sissoko's improvements since the public rocket have been very impressive. Pochettino is a great manager because you can see him learning and improving in the same way that his players do. I hope he stays a long long time.

I dont actively want him sacked right now. He's figured it out. But in no way, shape, or form was last nights win entertaining. I was literally squeezing by bum for 85 minutes until Son's dagger against the run of play.

Just need to get him a few quality additions to back him and match his ambitions imo.

Types of players for example:

Jonathan Tah (cb)

Brandt (am/winger)

Batshuyai/Sturridge/Rashford (sc).

Just to add quality, greater strength in depth, push our first 11 on and still young, so values will increase.

These are the type of players to help us push on and whilst hard to get, they are achievable unlike the likes of Isco, etc.

This would also allow us to loan out the likes of CCV who would benefit from greater playing time.
