I was at the game yesterday and it's prompted me to start an appreciation thread for our incredible manager Poch. We slate our team and managers so often when it doesn't go to plan but Poch really deserves such huge credit and appreciation.
The way our team weathered the initial 10 minute storm and 1-0 deficit to come back and not only win but win comfortably is testament to our players but mostly to our manager who has installed a belief and resilience in our players, club, fans as well as giving our team a clear identity, style of play and tactical structure. We got it spot on yesterday and Southampton couldn't cope, we looked on another level the first 10 minutes aside.
Ok that is his job you might say but easier said than done as we we'll know having been through endless managers over the last 20 years or so. A minority few may not agree with the way we play and suggest too much backwards or sideways passing but more often than not we 'dominate' games which is why our defence is so good as we usually restrict our opponents to little attacking opportunities and wear teams down with our possession play, another reason why we score a lot of goals in the final qtr of the match(Just like Fergies Utd teams used to do).
That is a brilliant base to build from, Potch has then brilliantly assessed the squad and those who don't cut it mentally or technically are moved on, no excuses. His man management has been excellent especially with new players like Son when he wanted to leave and Sissoko by dropping him to give him a kick up the arse.
As Danny Rose said 'Poch is the only manager who's actually spent time to improve me as a left-back'. What the hell were the previous managers doing?!!! But look at how good and consistent Walker and Rose are now compared to 3,4,5 seasons ago!! The improvement is staggering to be honest.
Let's be honest here finances make a huge difference in football and we've really been behind the 4 clubs above us and Man.Utd for the entirity of the premier league and not just a litttle bit I'm taking a big margin with regards to revenue and transfer fees and wages. Levy is working hard to close that gap off the pitch and Poch is doing an amazing job on it to make us punch above our weight and now consistently compete with these teams. So much so that opposing fans see the league as having a super top6 who are on another level! I'm impressed we're now part of that as in the past there was the top4 and we scrapped our way to 5-8th finishes but points and gd and quality wise we were really no where near the top4's level. Hence why we pretty much always lost to them, that is most certainly not the case now!
I know we've not won anything yet but I really think that will come the way this squad is developing and that is 100% down to our manager. It's refreshing watching us knowing how we will play and knowing the players all buy into this way of playing and working together as a team.
We had a fairly slow start to the season and the CL was a learning curve but were in a strong position in the league and I'm hopeful we can really give one of the two cups were left in a really good go.
The recent home wins against the lower teams and now away win vs Southampton yesterday are all games Spurs of the past would've messed up at least one of them would've been a draw or even a stupid loss, but the chances of that now happening are slimer due to our team having a structure, clear plan week in week out against whoever we play. Poch and our young team are still learning but how he's got us performing with the resources he's had deserves such huge credit!!
HES MAGIC YOU KNOW!!! And I bloody love the guy!!
COYS!!
