How would you use Modric?

That was certainly not the best game I've seen him have but how can some of you not be impressed by what you saw.

This kid is a head up performer, impeccable first touch, two foted, rarely gives the ball away. Glides round the pitch looking to receive and get on the ball. Tonight was a tough game facing the hosts. Croatia played 442 which - as you all know from watching us - means your two CM's need to graft and get assistance from the wide two and front two.

I'm impressed nearly every time I see Modric. I can't believe how lucky we are to have signed him. He is the classiest, most intelligent footballer we have signed for many many years - possibly since Ossie Ardiles.

I responded to the dumb-arse thread predicting he'd be too lightweight for English football by saying the same was said about Ossie 30 years ago. Comparisons have, apparently, been drawn elsewhere.

I can't see why people are so surprised to see him playing deep? This is the first game of the tounament all of the teams will play defensively as losing your first game is a killer.

Wait for the tournament to progress and then see more attacking play (also look at how many 1-0 and 0-0 there are in the first games).

Realistically I thought he would be used like Hleb was at the Scum, either wide left in a 4-4-2 or playing centrally off the striker in a 4-5-1. Now we have signed Dos Santos I'm not sure. My preference would now be a 4-2-3-1 with

----------------Berb------------
Dos Santos-----Modric-----Jenas
---------DM-----------DM------

That would mean using the Hudd and/or Zokora plus any potential new signings to play the DM role. I'd like to see Kaboul maybe given a shot at that role, I think there's potential in the boy and with his frame and speed he could be an amazing DM.

Does anyone else think that while signing two traditional 'Tottenham style' is absolutely amazing, that scoring goals and playing attacking football wasn't our problem last year, it was conceding them at the other end and thats the problem we should be addressing?

he will be our fabregas. The only problem is that fabregas had a workaholic in flamini covering space and winning the ball. WE DESPERATELY NEED A PLAYER LIKE THAT to get the best out of modric. the best option we have in the squad is zokora but i don't think he has the intelligance

Makoun is quite similar to Flamini, great engine, gets stuck in, and doesn't commit himself forward often. He's also an upgrade on Zokora in the fact that he can read the game an anticipate moves. He's a short ass though, as is Modric. I guess it's debatable how important height is in central midfield.

I do think with the right partner Modric could be our Fabregas, which is pretty exciting 'ay lads?

Amusing some are seemingly judging him on one game. He looked good in the 1st half and like Croatia in the 2nd he faded. Im pretty sure he got motm as well. I can't wait to see him against Germany as that will be a real test as he is up against Ballack and Frings, two top quality cm's. I think at first he will start wide for us then JR will move him more central as he gets used to the pace of the EPL.

Mangling Stoof's new Gio chant:

"He doesn't look a thing like Jeeeeenas but he.. plays like a Talisman, like we imagined, Luka, Lukaaaaaaaa"

I go with the Ardilles comparisons - of the players I've seen a lot of in recent (not so recent for some of our younger members I guess :) Modric reminds me most of Ossie

In england (and indeed in club Euro football) I don't think he'll score the amount or quality of goals that Scholes used to score - I don't think he'll match Fabregas' goals and assists either

Naturally may change my mind after a few spurs games - but ATM see him as most like Ossie - let's us hope he helps the team to trophies and top 3/4 finishes like Ardilles did :)

first I'd rub him in olive oil and tenderise him with a little whipping. Tie him in a doubled up suspended truss and rub garlic on him while swearing in Italian and making rude remarks about his sister. I'd let him headbutt me just to finish it off.

Well that's by far and away the most creative of the cheeky posts

on a serious note I'd play Modric behind the front 2 or as a left AM.
