How would you use Modric?

There's quite an interesting debate going on over in the transfer forum about how Modric will be used next season. I figured I'd bring it out into the open here, and hopefully get a few more opinions on the matter.

For this thread, you're allowed as much scope as you want. Would you change the system to accommodate such a creative player, much like Villarreal did a couple of years back with Riquelme? Would you play him in central midfield, in our current 4-4-2, which a big nasty bastard next to him, allowing him to do his thaaang? Maybe you'd ideally like to see him play in the role he did at Dynamo, which was as more of an attacking midfielder who'd come in from the left.

So come on - how do you think we'll get the most out of our new little genius? :)

If we play 4-4-2, I'd play Luka as our Fabregas-style playmaker, in CM next to a monster of a C/DM. Obviously, we still need to sign that monster...

If we change to a 4-2-3-1, then I'd play Luka as the ACM, behind the lone striker.

Next season, Modric will be the best creative passer in our squad, and I'd always want our best passer to be playing centrally as it offers him the most passing opportunities. Imo playing him at LM, like Arteta at Everton or Krancjar at Pompey, is essentially a negative, defensive, decision.

The title of this thread is just asking for Bomber to make a contribution!

Seriously though, I'd be very tempted to put him in the middle alongside a tall defensive midfield player (dirty bugger preferable!).

With Bently and Dos Santos on the wings! :hump:

Failing that stick Jenas in the middle alongside said new defensive midfielder and stick Modric on either flank (although would prefer the first option with Bentley!)

Definitively as an attacking CMF with a "tough bastard" next to/behind him (Veloso, Palombo, Yaya Toure, Gattuso, Mahamoud Diarra...deam on).
dos Santos on the left (or on the fith if Capel is signed) with Moutinho or Bentley as RMF. Or Lennon is he, by a miracle, would learn to cross over the summer.
Moutinho - Veloso - Modric - dos Santos

Realy depends on who else we bring in, but i can see us having two diffrent formations next season.

433 and 422

433 at home or when we need to attack. Modric would be used as one of the central 3. Bale and Hutton given the spase to attack down the wings with Dos Santos and Lennon/Keane/someone else pressing right up top.

When we need to be more defencive move him to LM. Wont be so attacking, but we will still have the creativity and stick 2 more defencive players center.

Watching the Croatia match now, I agree Modric should be in central midfield. He looks tidy with a good range of passing and keeps things ticking over in a similar way to Carrick used to.

Though he has been playing much more defensive than he has used to play and haven't as much effective on attacking what I would have wanted to see

Which is what we've all been dreaming of ever since Carrick left us:razz:
