I think he's fairly decent 4th striker for us but nothing more.

In all of that i cannot see Pav getting a good look in a performing team! I think he should start, for a prolonged period of time, with Keafoe next to him! Keanes had that oppotunity but Pav hasnt!!!!

Keane has played 4 good games in the last year for us and Pavlyuchenko hasn't done anything to warrant a place in the squad let alone team, yet you want them both to start ahead of Defoe and Crouch?

I really don't understand your argument that "he should start, for a prolonged period of time". With Keane playing and Pav not in the team, we are 3rd in the league and 3rd top scorers (same number of goals as United, more than Chelsea). And then there is Crouch to consider, who would surely be next in line for a regular start having scored a hat-trick in our second last match.

On what basis does Pav 'deserve' an opportunity? He was mediocre last year and scored 5 league goals. Surely he should be training hard and waiting for a drop in form or injuries to present him with an opportunity.

From 1999 season to the summer of 2004, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires played continuously - full English season, Euro2000, full English season, confed cup, full english season, world cup, full English season, confed cup, full English season - unbeaten in the league - euro 2004

So the "he hasn't had any rest" argument is a pretty futile one. He is a professional athlete - period. He hasn't performed - period. He isn't as good as what we've got - period. Hopefully we can get £10million for him - idoubt it though.:)

We've had this discussion before if i remember rightly!!!

They we're knocked out early in most of the comps they played, when that happened they got a break and extended breaks from there clubs if they play in the tournaments!!
Pav played the russian league, with the Euro's in the middle of that season, then when that finished he came straight to us after our pre-season and played our full season.

Just because the scum lot did that doesnt mean everyone else can!!!!

I think he should be given a chance to start next to Keane OR Defoe (i used Keafoe as a phrase for either or)!!! i.e. big and small guy!

He hasnt warranted a start because he hasnt had the chance like the others! they have to start as they are new signings!! Pav hasnt had a fair chance IMO.

Hold on there pal, i was merely pointing out that Keane has had a prolonged period in the side without performing great and yet Pav hasn't, im not saying drop all the strikers and only play pav, im not that blind but im just saying that others have had more of a chance than him, they have to as they are new signings i guess!

Maybe im being pedantic but were on here to share opinions and so i bought it up!!

*edit: sorry, on your last point, look above at other responses of mine, i didnt think Pav had alot going for him as he was playing in a struggling side and without a break/decent pre-season.

Euro 2000 - winners
Confed cup 2001 - winners
World cup 2002 - group stages
Confed cup 2003 - winners
Euro 2004 - knockout stages

Even with the extended breaks it still doesn't make up for losing the most of 5 summers on the trot. They were also playing at the absolute pinnacle of their careers - arguably playing for the best international and club teams in the world at the time

Pav = a complete and utter disappointment. I find it hard to understand why there are plenty of Spurs fans like you who try and make excuses for Pav but with Bent they just dismissed him as being "shit".

I know which one I would rather have...The current 2nd top scorer in the EPL, behind Torres.

I really wasn't having a go at you and am happy for you to share your opinion, I am just really baffled by why everyone is so keen for Pav to get a chance. My two lingering memories of Pav from last season are a shocker of a performance in the Carling Cup final and the last home game of the season against City, where his performance was so bad that he stormed down the tunnel after being substituted and later blamed his reaction on his frustration at his own performance. With this in mind, I would say that his position as 4th choice striker is justified.

By your argument, we should drop Lennon and give Bentley an extended run in the team because Lennon has had plenty of opportunities, whereas Bentley has not been given a fair chance since he (allegedly) got over his personal problems that were affecting him during last season.

Admittedly Keane hasn't been on top form but he has contributed arguably two matchwinning performances in our five wins so far (Hull and Burnley).

I think he is just a limited player who although a good goalscorer, did not contribute to other areas of the pitch.

.

Sounds like another player we have.............Oh yer, that was the same reason given to why JD could go!! Just a goalscorer, no more, no less........course now we love him again..........funny ole game football

Like has been said, Defoe left, got on every game for pompy and scored goals, Bent the same at Sunderland - and I am sure wherever Pav goes he will do well - pesonnaly, I think he has a little more in his locker than JD or Bent..........But I guess that won't save him!

Bottom line is, he is number 4 in Harrys books and that is not (and niether should it be) good enough for a player of his abillity - he will be gone in Jan - Pesonnaly I think Harry could have played him a bit more, even 20 mins here and there, but I don't think he is bothered if he goes in jan, so he is not making the effort - 3 stikers is enough, and maybe we will see Obika or Gio given a chance upfront!:)

Every time I've seen Pav he seems to spend most of the game trying to avoid physical contact. Not the greatest attribute for a striker.

He came on for Russia in the 54th minute and was frankly, quite a bit shyte. Well off the pace and not making the definitive killer runs in between the defenders. His positioning on crosses in to the box was very poor, bordering on nonchelantly couldn't be arsed, or, more likely, not able.

I think the writing is on the wall for this player at WHL. His approach to absorbing the whole being abroad thing by all accounts leaves something to be desired. Learning the language was an early prerequisite and this seems to have gone over his head.

Reminds me of Ian Rush at Juventus. We know he's a good player but in the worng country.

Eek

He's [Pav, not Rush] an ok player who, even in the 'right' country, would, at his very best, be on the same kind of level as Keane/Defoe. He is very much 4th choice at Spurs for all the right reasons - doesn't make him a bad player, per se, and I always hope he will do well when he plays for us, but the 3 strikers in front of him are all better IMO.

I think he's fairly decent 4th striker for us but nothing more.

Agree 100%.

We can not hang on to four top quality strikers, we don't play enough games to rotate them and even if we did it would still be difficult to hang on to all four.
