As we can't compete with the mega millions clubs we've got to take these chances. Not all of these will come off but if we do have a success it will be worth it.

How many of us had heard of Luka Modric before he signed?

I hadn't, and nevr heard of this guy either. Looking forward to see what he is like. He must have been in the pile of DVDs of young players Arsen left in his desk!

Plenty I suspect. I remember him coming on as sub in a couple of World Cup games but he really got everyones attention in 2006 when Dynamo Zagreb played Arsenal in the CL and then later that year when Croatia beat England in the Euro qualifiers.

Never heard of this guy though .

Villarreal had an option to buy but didn't take it up so I'm sure we have something similar. Take him on a free if he impresses, italian journo said him signing a contract extension with Juve was just rumous, nothing official.

There should be no doom and gloom about this signing, it's a loan yes but I'm sure it'll be permanent in the future if he does well. He's a 21yr old La Masia graduate. Our scouts would have looked at him and he seemed a right prospect at Barca and his formulative years at Juve.

Juventus officially announce the Iago Falque-Tottenham move. Signed a contract ext (till 2014) but Spurs have right-to-buy option.
Juventus Football Club announces that Yago Falque Silva has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan. The Spanish midfielder, born in 1990, joined Juventus in 2008. He will link up with the London based side until 30th June 2012, with the English club having an option to make the move permanent.

All this talk of why didn't we sign Falque on a permanent if he is such a prospect.

Think about it for a second.........

.......maybe Juve don't want to sell him for that very reason but want him to gain experience in a faster, tougher league.

Jeeez, let's use our brains today fellas.

Maybe we see him as a prospect but want to be sure before buying, so we have a proper look and make a decision, with the added benefit of not taking a squad number

There will be a clause to bu the guy after a year, Archibald confirmed that due to some form of permit we couldnt buy now. I would bet an awful lot of money we wont take a loan for the simple fact Juventus dont wish to sell, makes no busines sense at all

So what's in it for us? Taking on an unproven youngster as back up when there are many options available that would be less of a gamble? I just don't buy it. We must have an option to buy.

Some contradictory evidence - I'm fairly sure he's in the last year of his contract and that he can effectively sign as a free transfer next summer, however another poster claimed he signed a new deal with Juve before being loaned out which makes the deal somewhat very odd indeed.

I agree we must have option to buy as does seem a strange move otherwise, also the fact he has just extended his contract at Juve could point to them wanting to maximise the fee at the end of the year.

I was under the impression that he had signed a new contract. Did Archie actually say that it included an option to buy? I can't find this quote anywhere if he did. I would expect the ITKs to come out in the next few days and confirm options to buy on both the loan deals.

The more I thought about this the more pleased I am about it, as RSS mentioned this is a low risk signing. If he turns out to be good then it looks like we have an option to buy, if he's poor then back to Juve he goes.

No idea where he plays but hopefully he can push Lennon for a starting spot on the right.

Levy once said that we never take loan players unless there is a permanent option. There's some suggestion that Fraiser Campbell was otherwise, but that was more an emergency loan rather than a strategic one.

As City seemed to be the one pushing for a permanent transfer anyway, I'd say there's a very very good chance there is. Maybe less so with Yago, but who knows.

As teddy said, Juve have confirmed that we have an option to buy at the end of the loan on their website here
