Looking on the Barca subreddit the general consensus among their fans is that he's a rare talent - one of their best youth prospects in the past 10 years - well rounded, has a physicality that's quite unique compared to most La Masia graduates, and they are sad to lose him. I don't get the impression they think he's the second coming or are heartbroken about it, but they clearly rate him.

However they also say his agents are dicks and he was naive to try and push for so much money given his age and lack of experience.

Mostly positive stuff, though.

If the wages are 100k a week then its a no. Not a chance. How many first teamers are on less than that?

Put this in the wrong thread -sorry all -

The issue with Moriba is that his agent wants him to go to Leipzig as he has set up a lucrative deal for next summer when he is free. Barca want cash so have agreed a deal with spurs. The lucrative part is clearly for the agent hence he is pushing him to go their next year. Issue for the lad is does he want a year in the reserves our move now to the lane. My guess is he goes to Leipzig if his agent holds serious sway over him.

It doesn't seem so black and white to me. I feel like we can be smart with transfers in order to both invest for the future and address current deficiencies in the squad. If Moriba comes in as our only signing at CM then I do hope you're right that he can help us already this season, otherwise it seems like bad planning to put all our eggs in one basket. We could get a less "mainstream" youth prospect and also sign a first-team ready player, for example. They don't have to be world beaters we just need to improve on Winks + Sissoko and balance out the squad.
Exactly. We pay the highest prices in football to watch a team that ‘might’ be ready in 3 years’ time.

Doesn’t sound like a satisfactory deal to me. And especially after last year’s diabolical performances and desperate need for a long overdue and proper rebuild.

As good as I’m sure he is you have to remember at least half on the r/soccer subreddit and other football subreddits are Americans who just got into the sport v recently and mostly follow it through memes and opinions from football Twitter teenagers. Reddit is probs one of the last places I’d go to read anything football just on that basis alone. Good for highlights though.

Yea, and I don't disagree with that, but who is this first team player that is guaranteed to improve on winks and sissoko? How much are they costing? You may suggest a player Aouar, but they might struggle in the premier league and be a dud as well. Who is the youth prospect and does the mainstream aspect have any bearing? Once again, we have no evidence to show that this signing is preventing us making other signings.

When a player is leaving, for the fans to have mostly positive comments is a massively positive sign???? For example when it looked like Kane was leaving us, the average opinion of him became that he takes away from the team by chasing stats rather than wins and he’s a crippled old aged pensioner about to keel over from a slight breeze to the ankle ?

Moriba is a player that, if we buy him, we really need to play him regularly . Like when Dele joined and became a first team player almost instantly. It’s not like Moriba has to immediately replace Dele or Højbjerg, but he should be coming in for them rotationally. Then throw Sarr in the mix and we have 5 CMs competing for 3 spots next season. The future is looking very healthy.

At 18 years old the kid needs to be realistic in his wage demands. If he continues progressing in first team football, without doubt he will be offered new contracts with improved terms

This is why I love this site. An 18 year old youth player from Barcelona is linked, we’ve had scouts watching him and assessing how he would fit in, then from what we’ve taken in we’ve decided to try and jump ahead of Real Madrid and Leipzig by getting an offer in because lots of people in the football world have said he has a lot of potential and promise to become something special..

...but on SC, we shouldn’t sign him because Barry from Clapham who is at home, toast crumbs down his t-shirt, wasn’t aware of who the lad was last week, and doesn’t fancy him from his YouTube highlights. ???‍♂️
It is a good feature of the site alright - we could just as easily have Oscar living in his parents attic in Basildon getting all hipstery excited about the thousands of youth players playing footy all over Europe, ready to pounce when Spurs show interest in any of them.

Seems like a good punt if we get it over the line, but Barry from Clapham (or not :cautious:) might be more interested in other targets

Buying vast numbers of first team players in a single season never works. Expecting us to spend the money required for that after a pandemic is unrealistic. It's going to take multiple windows to complete the rebuild.

I don't know mate, that's why we have a scouting department and a head of recruitment. All we can do is try to interpret the decisions that they have made and speculate about how they will influence the team going forward.

He could end up being a dud, but he could end up being very good. It isn't a huge amount of money and it's worth the gamble. At this stage, there is no reason to worry about it.

It is really though isn’t it?

That's a false equivalency though. I think by now everybody has accepted the one in one out policy on first team players.

The problem I feel lies in if you pay him a lot of money and he is a flop then you have an expensive piece of non merchandise on your hands, if you don't cough up and someone pays the bill to have a superstar in their pocket you get Barry on your back. What is the answer, I don't know, only Para and his staff can answer that. Personally I would give him a performance related package to see if he can back up his claims as Barry is only light weight!
