Read the first page and read the recent pages...the closer he gets to becoming a Spurs player, the worse he gets it seems :ROFLMAO:

I think we need to see signings like this (if it comes off) as a change of strategy rather than a targeted acquisition. Undoubtedly some 18 year olds will not quite reach the potential we hoped they might, but at relatively low cost to us we will at worst almost recoup the outlay; more likely make a bit of profit; and best case find a couple of absolute world class players.

I like this change of direction, and it's exactly the sort of thing we should be doing.

He's playing for Barca at just 18 and is supposed to be a generational talent. Pretty sure he will be at least decent and better than Winks for example.
I'm not sure if we can read too much into this. They are always going to try and find space for academy players for at least a few appearances. The real question is why are they seemingly so happy to let him go, if he is indeed a "generational talent"?

I don't know how good this kid is, but can we ban the phrase "generational talent"? It seems to be banded about all over the place, which pretty much makes it meaningless.......and doubtless untrue anyway, as we seem to have signed 2 such talents already this year!
I much prefer "shit hot", "the bee's knees", or even, "he's fucking incredible". :cautious: :shifty:

I always think the Jude Bellingham example is the best one, I saw A LOT of "He plays for Birmingham, can't be that great, why's no top PL club signing him up?" etc etc, when you're looking at a player of that age you're looking at what impact a change of surroundings and a bigger impetus can give immediately, if they want it and grab it by both hands they'll step up a level just from the move alone, as witnessed multiple times now

But what if he is a "generational talent"? What do we call him then?

I’m always cautious of these signings when I read our fan base going crazy and piling on expectation on him before he’s even played a game. He’s a kid who, to my limited knowledge, has never played outside of Spain. I would be very surprised if he makes a major impact on the first team squad this year but who knows, maybe he will, but we should probably all chill out a little bit as we’ve seen these types of signings (highly rated youngsters) fail with us more often than not.

In my family heritage we have a saying:

“我唔會講呢種語言”

Which roughly translates to “to fit in here you don’t have to be the best, you just have to be better than harry winks”
I wonder how many of us translated that! It says
"I don't know how to speak this language"

For how he sounds I love the idea of him, even if he is young. But our midfield is so lacking that I feel we need someone who can come in and add to it straight away. Seems like him and a more accomplished central midfielder would be really ideal but I'm not sure if that's in our plans.

A four year contract doesn’t give huge wiggle room.
Basically a season to bed in, a season to stake his claim. After that, if another contract or extension isn’t signed, we’d basically be looking to sell so he doesn’t reach the final year of his contract and his value starts to drop.

Still, might be a decent money ball project. Who knows.

I watched the YT vids and I wasn’t overly convinced, but that is such a small sample size that it’s difficult to fairly judge.

Guess we’ll see what happens, and that, I’m comfortable with if the club think it’d be a good move.
Apparently there’s a option for a 5th year but that contract length still concerns me. If he doesn’t extend next year we’ll end up in a Mbappe situation

They aren't happy to let him go, they are livid. He has one year left on his contract so they have no choice but to cash in.

Haven't even signed him and people are talking about him possibly leaving in a few years? Why not just focus on the here and now. He could do a Dele, come in and take his chance and never look back.

Either way he is 18 and so it's too early to know which way it goes.

But I do know if we don't sign him and he ends up being that star the amount of people saying "why didn't we sign him when we had the chance?!" will be tenfold.

Everything about this feels odd. The fees his dad and agents want, the high wages, the fact he's leaving Barca at all, and only 4 years. People saying we can just give him a better contract but I don't think that will be easy to do with his people plus I suspect he'll be on big wages from the get go.
