you look at it our squad at full strength is pretty fucking ridiculous for a team not even in the europa league.

Hudd if he can keep this up is better than JJ ever has been! That means a very experienced JJ is a 3rd choice.

In defence we have Woody and King...top class, Daws habeen fantastic under Arry and Bassong is looking a good bit of business. Benny is a top LB now, Corluka looks alot fitter and more aggressive, Hutton who is no slouch is on the bench!

We have Lennon, backed up by Bentley..a international player with bags of ability and if only he had half a brain to use it! The impressive Naughton and Giovani has had a good time with Mexico

Modric, Bale, O'hara (not as great on the left) on the left.

And up top we have 4 internationals, a star of the Euros in Pav and Prem experience in abundance in Defoe Keane and Crouch

Dare I say Liverpool and Arsenal would kill for this depth. The only difference is that we dont have that world class match winner eg Gerrard, Torres, Van Persie, Fabregas. Modric can develop into this role...but I think its maybe a blessing in disguise as these sides rely too much on these players.

I am not getting carried away; we still need a Palacios backup, how many games will King play, can Bale break the curse, who will emerge as the best CF pairing.

But I am very optomistic............I just think we really really really need to be patient because Harry has PROVEN he knows what the hell he is doing...he's building a great side

I still think we're in desperate need of another combative midfielder as Palacios is just so vital.

as you said hybrid we do need a palacios back up but i'd go further with that and say we need another starting CM to come in (if jenas goes) i wouldnt be confident playing hudd and ohara/modric in the CM position against any decent CM pairing and especially against the bigger clubs because we would be overrun.
all teams are heavily reliant on 1 or 2 players - rooney, vidic, fab, van pervy, stevie g, torres etc but i dont want us to fall into that trap. IF jenas goes we need a quality CM to replace him, if he doesnt then i would be happy with hudd & jenas pairing if wilson is out. i completely agree with 'as good as maradona but without the pace' we have a better squad then pool but as u pointed out we dont have 2 players like stevie g and torres but im glad at the moment we dont because if we did hughes would be throwing crazy money at levy for them and we'd end up shipping them out.

if someone offered me 6th right now though i would take it and run

Not sure I can agree with you on not being confident playing Hudd. He did very well yesterday and even if there was no Alonso, there was both Gerrard (further up the pitch admittedly) and Mascherano. I bet Benitez would have loved Huddlestone in his midfield instead of Lucas yesterday!

I had a good feeling about yesterday and even placed a 2-1 bet on spurs winning only problem is i got the first goal scorer wrong.

What i didn't expect was the nature of our victory, we completely out play Liverpool in every area of the pitch. I was especially impressed with Huddlestone yesterday he looked a different player and even got stuck in a few times. Palacios as always was excpetional and these two look like they could be great cm partnership. One of huddlestones problems has always been consistency and we'll see in the next two away games how far he really has come. Modrics little deft touches and vision is top draw, his cross for keane with what looked like the outside of his boot was excellent.

Our back four were also excellent, corlukas intelligence and reading of the game makes up for his lack of pace. He's so composed on the ball and hardly ever just hoofs the ball out at any given opportunity instead choosing to play the ball around on the deck. Bassong looks solid and forged a formidable centre back pairing with king he looks like he could be an superb purchase and benny just keeps on improving with every game.

Keane and defoe seemed to work quite well together and on another day keane could have bagged a couple of goals today. Crouch when he came on didn't look too effective but he did seem to scare liverpools defence with his aerial threat, but given time to adapt to the squad and with more playing time i'm sure he will prove to be a great aquisition.

Lastly i thought our fans were also excellent, there was a great atmosphere yesterday, the gerard chants were genius and the 'handball' chants were hillarious.

Great day and i'm over the moon with the result but i'm not going to get too carried away until we get the away games against Hull and West Ham out the way to gauge if this could be a season to remember.

I've not seen a Liverpool team that content with settling for thier share of fight ball possession. It;s very easy to piont at the loss of Alonso for the reason why they had such little control of the ball and i suppose time will tell if that is the real reason.

I still think we gave the ball away too oftern buy going long and quickly up front. We need to pass the ball better becasue Chavs, goons and UTD will all punish us with the amount of ball Liverpool got in the second half. Thats soemthing we need to work on.

Perfect for a manager though. He's won a game but he's still got stuff he can work on to keep the players grounded.
