I know I've come into this discussion late but I'd just like to say that twice in the last 2 weeks I've text my other half to let them know I'm horny. Both times, as well as just now before I edited it, it came out as Holtby.

The second text I realised just before I sent it so edited it, but the first one read, word for word - 'Actually I'm feeling Holtby so I might crack one out before you get home' (smiley face).

This seemed like a good thread to tell people that.

I'm guilty of it but i'm such a bad speller. I find it really tricky remembering foreign names. The Zokora one though there's really no excuse. I mean it's a pretty simple name to remember.

I remember early on I used Roche instead of Rocha and I nearly got lynched. It was literally the first time I'd typed his name and he'd only signed like a week before. Bit much that.

Not footy related but lots of people type definately and that rubs me up the wrong way I've got to say. I was guilty of it myself though I'll admit. The weird thing is, who would ever type definate? I mean it just looks completely ridiculous.

Another one is they're, their and there.

And "should of".

The one that really makes me want to chew my own face off is 'loose' instead of 'lose'. As in "I've got a feeling we're going to loose today".

Loose what? Loose trousers? Loose change? Loosen our inhibitions and really go for it?

I've got a Johnny Thunders LP with the title 'Born to Loose'. To this day I can't tell if it's deliberate or just idiotic.

If you don't like people spelling players names wrong then I wouldn't play any of the earlier Pro Evo games...

On a serious note, it is fucking annoying and pretty disrespectful really

Does my head in. Every time.

I have to back off, though. I have eidetic spelling: when I learn a new word, the order of the letters is just part of learning the word and I never spell it wrong, ever. I don't understand how people can chronically get words and names wrong. Isn't the way the letters are ordered intrinsic to the word? If the letters are in a different order, it must be a different word.

It's very hard for people to whom spelling comes easily to accept that people who chronically misspell words aren't just being fucking lazy. But I guess they aren't. I think. Most of the time. Well. Sometimes, anyway...

It does my head in too. Some of my relatives are dyslexic so I appreciate that is different and spelling is just generally a challenge for some people, but some of the time you just wonder whether people even understand the way in which combinations of letters are supposed to be said in plain English. The prime example that grits my shit is when people type 'defiantly' when they mean 'definitely'. They are 2 completely different words!

With regards to names, I used to know a Spurs fan who is actually worse than Pleat when it comes to pronouncing names. For years he pronounced Kluivert as 'Kolvert'. I wanted to kill him. I don't see him anymore so I presume he was actually killed by someone with less patience than me. If I ever meet that person I am buying them a shandy.

Right now on RAWK I bet there are a thousand different spellings of Yevhen Konoplyanka.

I couldn't agree more. All words are made up anyway and im not sure its fair to judge anyones overall intellect based on how well they spell.

People wouldn't know how dyslexic i am if all they did was talk to me face to face. I have no problems saying words or formulating sentences when i am not writing. Writing screws with my brain and i often even see words and sentences that look correct but aren't and it takes me 3 or 4 reads to spot my mistakes.

I write a blog that i often have to get someone to proof read for me just to ensure that everything is ok..... this goes far beyond the spell checking as i find it nearly impossible to distinguish between words like form or from when they are written down and it also goes for sentence structure.

Players names are a bit different though and one should, i feel, take a moment to know how to spell them. It only takes a moment to check but berating someone for getting it wrong isn't really very fair. A kind heads up or helpful reminder of the correct spelling is probably the best course of action.

Meh, just don't know why it bothers people - pretty obvious when someone is talking about any particular player, even if the name is spelt incorrectly.

It's not disrespectful or any other name given by some in here - this is a fricking forum, not work or school, lots post from work, so quickly type something out, without checking, some can't spell properly, and some just don't pay attention to such trivial shite such as how a name is spelt ;-)

Do not assume that 'pedantic' is an insult. It's a compliment to pedants. People just relate to language differently. For some like me, raised the way I was, words are a game and the object is (a) to say or write what you mean as precisely as you can and (b) to have fun while you're doing it.

Saying things backwards. Spoonerisms. Pig-Latin. Puns. Impossible tongue-twisters. Memorising nonsense rhymes. Spelling things backwards. That was the backdrop of my childhood - my whole family are like that. And the spelling thing is just part of it.

As I wrote above, eventually I had to learn that not everyone is like me. Same goes for you.

You seem to think I'm clever enough to use pedantic as an insult. Pillock was the insult there fella.

See, when I was a kid, we used to play with sticks and pretend they were guns over the woods.

And seeing as you felt the need to..yet without meaning to be as patronising as you came across - I know everyone is different, my point was exactly that, but about accepting it (the incorrect spelling), live and let live - if this type of thing bothers you (as in spellings of someones name on an internet forum)... well, theres not really much to say about that type of person!

This thread is genius! The worst has to be with not spelling names, mostly pronouncing. A spurs fan I know calls Soldado, "Salgado" which really drives me up the wall!
