ITK Archibald on SO- Defensive mid

I'd be more surprised to find we weren't after this guy, going by what I've seen of him. Got a lot ahead of him if he goes to Man U too. Here's hoping.

I haven't seen the guy play but as you say unless he's the new messaih then Man U have no need for him at the moment what with Carrick/Hargreaves & Anderson

What I've seen of Veloso he looks more of a Carrick DM, a good passer of the ball and strong positional awareness.

I like Veloso, but I'm not convinced he'd want to leave Portugal for us. He has a very big reputation and I suspect he'd rather stay there for another season and then join one of the European giants. I think reputation wise, he's more of a Queresma than a Postiga. What i mean by that is most of Europes biggest clubs will be sniffing round him. I wouldn't be suprised if the player we are after is actually Katsouranis from Benfica. He's a quality DM, who we have been linked with in the recent past. He's also a better age (older) and has the experience and leadership qualities the ITKs have suggested we are looking for in a midfielder.

Will be flying (I don't think anyone's gone yet, just arranged a meeting), but no.

However for all transfers above a couple of million it would usually always be both. John Alexander would be there for certain too.

Before the 7 June or not at all. We're concentrating hard on snapping up targets who are likely to make an impact at the Euros (and thereby have their prices massively inflated) first.

None of the GKs linked with us should be in the starting 11 for any of the 16 teams. The same with any S. American/African players in any position.

I think Lucho would leave Porto, but Porto have already turned down one 22 million euro bid (from At. Madrid I believe), so it would cost a packet to get him. I'm not sure he is a particularly good leader anyway (as Dan said), but he is certainly a very good player. I would honestly prefer Gattuso than Lucho and then play 3 in midfield, such as:

Very classy player, with good distribution. A gritty leader and a player who will be able to drive on from midfield, contribute to the goal tally and cover a lot of ground. Flair and creativity from the wing forward positions (although Veloso and JJ would help anyway) and Berba up top.​

I'm usually a mile off with my guesses though, so I doubt we will be seeing anything like that.​

What makes you say Lucho is a true leader? Great player but has never really struck me as a leader.

In fact I remember Tim Vickery making some comment that he was better in the supporting cast and that he was an able Lieutenant to Riquelme's captain. Can't find the quote though.

I'm sure I saw them linked to a Portugese Right Back who was said to be similar in style to Patrice Evra. They've also Micah Richards who presumably they would be looking at playing out of position at right back quote]

I believe he was referring to the fact that Alex was going after Richards as oppose to them already having him.... but on reflection you probably knew that and it was just a bit tongue in cheek!
