Brown has certainly not been immense. When acting as cover for Vidic or Ferdinand United have leaked goals and is accepted that he is a versatile squad player. Whether City need the money is not the issue Tottenham don't need the money for Berbatov but you can't keep a player who has had his head turned by a perceived better offer.

Brown's looked alright in the centre (but played there rarely), but decidedly average at RB.

I agree alright at centre half and average at right back - all that you can expect from a squad player. Richards provides significant improvement in both areas for United's defence and combined with Hargreaves provides fantastic versatility in a range of positions while be an excellent first teamer as does Essien.

United are likely to be looking at other positions in the summer - specifically long ter replacement for Neville with Micah Richards strongly linked and and a replacement for their very own tin man Louis Saha.

Signing a player like Richards negates any need to buy Veloso as the kid can play anywhere along the back four and in midfield.

Sorry, but Brown has been immense this season, and Man City don't exactly need the money do they?

I agree with nic that Brown has had a pretty solid decent season (not immense though) but he is at the end of the day a centre back covering at right back and a club like Man U really should have a specialist right back there.

Richards could end up going there as a lot of turmoil at Man City BUT again it would be playing a specialist centre back out of position at right back - granted Richards is a very good right back but centre back is his true position.

I just hope Man U get someone long-term in this summer meaning they keep their dirty little noses away from out lad Hutton...

If that's true then he should be our number 1 transfer target. I'd take him ahead of Veloso, Gattuso, Gonzales or Makoun. He's a genuine allround midfielder, who is strong in all areas. He reminds me of Ballack, in that he can defend, create, score goals and will run further than anyone else on the pitch.

Sorry Joey but I would take Gonzales and Makoun ahead of Keita,Velosa,Moutinho and Gattuso.Keita is good but not the type of player we need!
If we are selling Berbatov perhaps we are looking in Portugal for more than one player - Gonzales and Quaresma, now that would be very nice!
While on the subject of midfielders,I would really love us to sign Riccardo Montolivo of Fiorentina, anyone got any info on him -contract/value!He looks like the new Glenn Hoddle!

This would do me nicely! With JJ to come on for Makoun if we're losing, and the Hudd to come on if we're winning to slow the game down. A left winger would be nice as well so we would have the option to move Modric into that no.10 role and play with more width through the wingers. We could also play JJ on the right instead of Lennon to pack the central midfield and allow Bale and Hutton to get forward more. We could be quite a force next season if we get the balance right.

I'd like to think we'll have a better goalkeeper than that...

Not bad but I'd rather see, fex, Adler or Neuer as keeper and Modric a CMF with, say, Capel or Ben Arfa as LMF.

You can only create 3 players on the BBC thingy and I still havent lost all faith in Robbo as some have. Although obviously if we can get someone better for the right price I think we should go for it.

Modric's role is being discussed in another thread, but basically most people, including myself, dont think he'll be able to play centrally in a flat 4 midfield. If he did he'd have to play in a similar way to Fabregas, which he may be able to do after time, but he will need to adapt to the Premiership and playing him in that role straight away is a big responsibilty so we risk destroying his confidence (not to mention the fans confidence in him) if he does not play well. We'd be far better off letting him play Steeds role, which he has all the attributes to do.
