Fiorentina are only really on a par with us I say, Atheletico may be a CL team next year but they are not a huge step up (not enough to satisfy his desire I'd suggest)

I would think he should be looking to go to the Milan teams, BArca/Real, or one of Chelsea/Man U even Liverpool i.e. teams who could win the CL next year.

I obviously hope he stays, but if he goes we need to get either maxium money for him or a suitably talented player in a part exchange.

Not sure if Milan will be able to win the CL next year!

Would he get in any of their starting 11s, Liverpool aside? Perhaps at that level people view him as a Darren Bent waiting to happen? I'm sure every player we have would be looking for a move to a team who could win the CL but it doesn't mean they are wanted by them.

No they certainly wont, yet still they are on the highest level of club teams in world football (Second only to Real in all time prestige in my opinion). Will no doubt spend a lot of money and have the type of players he has expressed an interest in playing along side.

While they will not be in the CL, they will surely have a side competing strongly for all competitions they are in next year and as such be the type of club I'd expect him to want to go to.

To be honest, I'm not bothered. I can't be arsed to suffer another season of speculation over his future. Let's get in a top-class replacement with the cash though. Someone like Santa Cruz will do us.

I suppose that depends on how good he really is. If he is one of the top strikers in the world (as he is often said to be) then yes he would be able to get in any of the first teams.

If we refuse to accept less the £25m for example, I would suggest any team prepared to meet this valuation would also be thinking of him as a first team starter (although D Bent is a exception to this rule)

If as is suggested he wants to leave us to go to a bigger team and play with better players then I would imagion he is looking to make a step up to a very big team otherwise what is the point of wanting to move so badly?

If the CL is so important to the extent that he would want to leave us just to play in it even if his new side are not realistic contenders for the title would he be happy to go somewhere like Rangers/Celtic/Fenerbace/Olympiacos.

True the interest of bigger clubs for him is beyond his control, that will depend on their perception of him.

But if he does want to leave what is his motivation for doing so?
I dont see the point in him wanting to leave us unless it is to go to a bigger team in a big league who are likely to win titles or atleast be in the mix for them (like Arsenal for example)

So pick the teams who could win the league in England, Spain, Italy and maybe Germany (teams also strong enough that if they were in the CL they would be in with a chance of winning it) and these are the teams I could understand him wanting to go to.

Anywhere else I Would see it as being a side step or atleast not a big enough forward step to justify not allowing Ramos to work with him and the team for a full preseason and season to see what he can do with the team (after all he has already delivered silverwear to us, has a good winning track record and we have already shown intent of quality investment to support him)

So if he goes somewhere like Floirentina or Ath. Madrid it would seem more money motivated (and even then surely we can match their monetry rewards)

if we won't go lower than say £28m (presumably £40m is just an opening stance) then there's a good chance that Chelsea?Manu may be the only bidders - (CFC if Drogba goes) - so then we may have to sell him to a English club - be an interesting test of wills then

of course this all assumes he wants to go (which I guess he does)

i think he will go to chelsea for around 28m and partner anelka with drogba going to milan. Drogma would command a smaller fee and is more prolific

If his motivation, if friend Berbati is to be believed, is simply playing in the CL, then Atleti, Fiorentina and Milan might deliver. On the other hand, if he wants to win it, I don't see any of them as contenders in the near future. In fact, I don't see Atleti and Fiorentina as serious contenders ever. Milan, yes, of course, but they need a lot more than a striker right now.

When Berba returned home to collect his Player of the Year Award last month he gave an interview to Max magazine, part of which was posted by jd80 on gg today:

J; Are you a very good footballer who enjoys a good moment in his career or you are a good footballer who is going to become a great one?
B: I hope it's the second one. I want to achieve something great but for this end I have to play in the CL. If this happens with Spurs, then great. If not - then I will seek to achieve it with another team.

Interestingly, there's another thread there by a friend of Bent's who says he met him before Saturday's match, and 2 things emerged:
a) Berbs is "unhappy" and has become "distant" from the team over the last month. He describes him leaving lunch early to stroll around the pitch in contemplation
b) Bent is also unhappy, and unless he plays regular first team Football next season, will think about his future.

In that case, we could have 2 unhappy forwards on our hands.
If the club/Ramos choose to sell Bent, who on earth is going to pay the 17 mill we paid for him? We'll never recoup that money, and he's only 24.
Yet, we expect to make a monster profit on 27 year old Berba. Why?
If he's not as good, or in demand as Dan suggests (and I believe his postings are 100% genuine and informed, so thank you) then why not reduce the fee to a realistic amount which would be acceptable in the interests of everyone concerned?
Do we know if there would be interest from the big 5 in Europe if the fee was reduced to around 20 mill, or if there is solid interest from another PL club?

I appreciate Dan's/the club's POV that the price is fixed and he should knuckle down and impress next season if he wants a big move upwards, but is he that type of character? On this season's evidence, no.
He talks a good team game, but as you say, does not deliver on a consistant basis, most importantly, at the start of the season. And it's imperative we get off to a good start next season with everyone singing from the same hymn sheet and a united goal.
After all, Berba's form was poor last Autumn after a speculated move to MU was refused in the Summer, and was a contributory factor to us not making the CL this year.
I'm not ushering him out or packing his suitcase, I just want a happy team of players and to enjoy watching good Football with motivated players and a chance of winning the UEFA/FA Cup and doing well in the League.

Some really interesting points,,which make it, for me, all possiblities are possible...
bit of bugger that really.

With the comments attributed to Ramos About "if price is met" (along those lines) My feelings are swaying to him gone.......Sad really.......But I just dont see the point of keeping any player who doesnt' want to play for you
