Too easy to say.

From what I've heard we'll actually only sign 3 or 4 more first team signings all summer, but they will all be big players like Modric.

There will be a few squad exits (Lee, Chimbo, Salty, Gardner and Rocha), but not incomings, other than kids. Current first teamers will become our squad players (Jenas, Zokora, Malbranque etc).

That would be so good.

Arshavin, I believe, will be on his way to Newcastle. He is a similar player to Modric, in my opinion not as good, and Newcastle will simply have to settle for second best.

Unless they get Ronaldinho

I hope he is *supposedly* on his way to Newcastle, because those sorts of players tend to end up at Spurs.

Like Modric

Arshavin and Modric are too similar - we've made that choice now. Probably the same re Capel (position wise rather than style).

Amelia, Veloso, Lucho Gonzalez (or players of that style and calibre) should (IMO) be the 3 big signings now.

It's funny, my Chelsea supporting mates are absolutely stunned. They were convinced that they were getting him. Yay!

That would be the ideal and I keep trying to get that point forward to those who call for a 12-13 player mass clearout.

Not having a pop at ITK's cos i do enjoy reading their stuff sometimes, but this information is, well, just lame.

They miss out on the fact we've pulled off the biggest coup for yonks (which is fine, i prefer the club to act this way anyway) but then a few hours later, state the obvious - 'this shows our ambition, the top boys are hoping Berbs will stay now, few ins and outs etc'. Even if the ITK had said 'they've told him there's another superstar coming here this week' then that's fair enough, but there is just nothing in that statement we haven't already assumed ourselves.

I do enjoy reading the ITK stuff and take pretty much all of it with a pinch of salt, but surely it would've been better for them to just stay silent rather than trying to make up for missing out on it. I don't know which ITK's are more reliable than others, but i think i've heard that Dragon's pretty good, so maybe i just expected better, or at least some actual information.

It's almost as obvious as Nidge's post underneath it - 'confirmation there will be lots of comings and goings this summer'. Really? I thought it'd be one in, one out all summer. :)

Apologies if it seems i'm having a pop but i'm tired. I got limited sleep from the over-excitedness. Brilliant signing and hopefully the first of many great signings.

You mean apart from a certain £10,9mill signing form Leverkusen in 2006?

How come we've got so much money ?

Does this mean Berb's departure is a done deal and we're flashing cash we're going to be getting soon ?

Hi GK - we have the 11th highest income in world football -

our income went up even more the first six monthes of this financial year - it will increase even more due to winning the Carling and once again qualifying for UEFA

the very same thought i had when i first heard the news....

one proven superstar out the door in exchange for a player of massive *potential*??

replacing proven prem quality for unproven potential is risky.

on a lighter note -if we are to convince berbs to stay we would need massive investment in the team and this is a huge step ..not forgetting the hutton and woodgate signings recently.

:) Yeah but not everyone was after him and no-one here had really heard of him, whereas everyone from Chelsea, Barca and Doncaster Rovers wanted Modric. 'Star status' wise, this is our biggest since Davids but even he was at the end of his career.

Still, unproven in the prem but it's not as if he's used to overly sunny climates at Zagreb. Should fit in well....
