Anyway, back to the ITK. Galahad the Gnome seems to be a new kid on the block but does appear to have Prof's personal imprimatur, so it's reasonable to assume that he isn't a wannabe bullshit-artist and does have a credible source or two.

I have my doubts that we did put in a bid for Nani, because it would have been as pointless as our similarly alleged bid for Hargreaves. It seems pretty clear that Levy wasn't prepared to go over a certain figure for Young and that Villa were. A PLC v. football decision?

Well, we certainly missed a bullet with Duff.

And it comes down to the same old names, doesn't it? (With new, added, Arshavin, of course.) We have Bale, Malbranque and, theoretically, BAE; that should be good enough to see us through until the summer. As Joey points out, the Russian season is over, but Zenit must have serious ambitions of getting through to the latter stages of UEFA, if not actually winning it, and Arshavin will be cup-tied and thus a fat lot of good to us in Europe.

I honestly don't see too much happening in January.

[EDIT] TSH, I don't know how you can say that Jol wasn't fussed about signing an LM, because he was certainly very keen on Downing, for starters (Cue chorus of, 'Nooo! He's shit!'). We ended up having to make do and mend until Bale arrived simply because there is a shortage of quality LMs, and I'd sooner we had a good player out of position than some tool who happens to be left-footed in position. Rosicky is hardly a natural LM, and Diaby certainly isn't.

Also Jol did speak of his desire for "wing play" and said he wanted a "Robben type". But most importantly he's Dutch. Virtually all Dutch teams play with wingers. And at RKC Jol did play with Molhoek and Petrovic on the wings.

Is he not fictional? I always assumed he was a front for publicity-shy ITKs rather than any one single person so it's hard to judge his record as the info could be coming from different people.

Galahad isn't ITK himself. But if someone has some ITK (with a confirmed and proven source), but he doesn't want to spread the info personally, it'll often end up coming through the mouth of Galahad.

FYI Galahad's an actual real life gnome who lives behind the West Stand cockerel.
