I think he’s one of those that will go down in legend after his playing days. On another forum a few years ago he bought some top tier boots for a lad who saw him out shopping. There’s videos of him stopping outside football cages and giving lads an impromptu coaching lessons and game. The guy loved football

My barbers brother had a cab firm in Cuffley, JD had an account with them and had a regular cab arrive at 9am every Sunday morning to take home whatever page3/lads mag model he’d pulled the night before.

Absolute lad.

Defoe is a super finisher. Sometimes he lacked composure but I loved the guy. Genuine guy too.

I remember thinking he was pretty much retiring when he went to the MLS. That he came back and kept banging in goals for nearly another ten years is a massive testament to him.

Fair play to JD. He was great to watch at Spurs, unlucky at times, inconsistent at others but a natural goalscorer. Hit the ground running with his debut v Pompey and went from there. The reception when he was reintroduced at half time v Burnley when he resigned was also memorable. So many goals.

His England record, despite never really being a first choice on many occasions is very respectable.

My wife is Canadian and we were visiting her family in Toronto when he signed and had his press conference. It was big news over there at the time. In a way I was disappointed it didn't work out for him over there, due to my love for Toronto (the city not the team).

Certain players are just really satifying to watch shoot. Loved watching him. (y)

One of my favourites and seems like a genuinely good human being. If I'm being honest I'm not convinced in his punditry skills but I hope/suspect he may improve in that field (he's certainly no worse that many of those on Sky/BT).

Thanks Jermain.

His goal in the 5-4 at home to Arsenal typifies his unique shooting ability. I can't think of many strikers who could've struck the ball the way he did whilst generating so much power. My only - very minor - criticism is there were times I wished he placed some of his chances instead of lacing them, but he proves shot power is more technique than size.
