You'd let go of Ekotto? You do realise that he's been amongst our best players... nay, amongst our only good players

You realise you're trying to have an intelligent discussion about football with someone who believes Dawson should play at DM?

and yet you defend redknapp and he keeps pushing dawson upfront. and of course dawson would have been doing so much worse than what ledley king was doing against wigan. oh defensive midfield what a specialist role.

A bit worrying that JJ had a calf strain 3 weeks ago, was fit enough to come on at Wigan last week BUT suddenly has a calf strain again after about 5 mins of football

Hopefully he tweaked it again in training otherwise I dont like the sound of it, after what Harry had to say last week

More likely thats why he was only on the bench against Wigan, had he been fit perhaps he would have started.

I just think that some of you have a completely unrealistic perspective of our situation.

You talk about Jenas's (and Zokora for that matter) deficiencies and exactly what he should be doing as if midfielders like that are ten a penny. Jenas would absoloutely fucking stroll into 16 teams in the EPL.

The midfielders that are better than him are either uber specialists like Lampard and Gerrard (neither of whom have his defensive qualities or pass completion percentage and both play in a 5 man midfield to compensate) Fabregas, Essien, Maschareno, Gattuso, Pirlo, YaYa Toure etc etc.

You are talking about the top drawer CM's. They are all playing for the top clubs of Europe. Which is why, despite having plenty of money to throw at the situation, we have been unable to better Jenas for 4 years.

And the comparison with Modric is silly. They are different players. Modric is only truly effective when his responsibility is reduced with the support of two CM's behind him.

You really need to get your heads out of your arses, I haven't seen a better allrounder in central midfield for us since perhaps someone like Ricky Villa who was far less consistant than Jenas, or maybe Paul Allen ?

I challenge you lot to list the best players of Jenas's type over the last 30 years to wear our shirt. It's a fucking short list.

well said BC- wanted to give some rep but couldn't

- my lengthy ignore list is testament to the people who haven't got a clue about JJ - and who are sooooooooooooooooooooooo out in their opinions (not to say civility with a lot of them) that IMO I just don't rate their judgement at all

I may be wrong of course :)

and Villa of course really was the epitome of inconsistency - if people get frustrated with JJ - well I don't know wwhat they made (would have made) of Ricky

Damn the world must be a tough place for you since i guess everyone doesn't agree with you on everything.

But perhaps you put them on your ignore list

im wondering what all you jenas lovers are going to do when harry ships the invisible man out of our club ???

he has finally been found out to be a fake player , no skill , no heart , no balls !
he will not be a spurs player by the tiime next season starts

zokora is worth 10 of him , he has half the talent but plays with passion and pride for our club

if we do sign palacios & appaiah where does that leave huddy & jenas? as arry already loves modric & zokora.. appiah is far from match fit but palacios would come straight into the side leaving one spot and i cannot see jenas getting it ahead of modric dc-boy blinkers & family ties aside?

i agree mate , if we sign palacios its going to be bye bye jj
its obvious harry dont rate him no matter what he said in his press conference ..... hudd wont be sold as he has amazing technical ability and is a useful player to have on the bench.... maybe jose will buy him after all so he can have 2 great games a season against ac milan

HI WI - I've told you before I have no family links with JJ whatsoever, I have never even met the guy-

I just can't stand (like BC and quite a few others on here) the ridiculous and often nasty things people say about one of our best players who has given us three good years of service

it simply makes me sick

the blinkers remark is a bit OTT - I'm not sure whether that has crossed the 'ignore' line - what do you think? - is that fair comment to another member who has never said anything bad to you (indeed hasn't said a bad thing to anyone on here for months, as part of my 'peaceful philiosophy'

re JJ's standing in the heirarchy - Harry has said 'he's one of the best mids in the country' (is he wearing blinkers BTW?) and 'if he's fit he plays'

so that says JJ is right at the top of the heirarchy, as he has been with Jol and Ramos (did they wear blinkers too?)

when JJ is fit - hopefully soon, as once again we missed him yesterday and since he's been injured our lge form has nosedived) - we'll find out if HR means what he says -

I've no reason not to believe him - time will tell, by their fruits shall ye know them, etc etc

Can someone provide evidence of 'when fit he plays' and then explain why he didn't start at Wigan?

Maybe Harry thought he wasn't fit enough to start but could still manage to put in a shift towards the end if it became necessary...

I must admit the 'when he's fit he plays' quote came from memory - I'm sure I read it somewhere

anyway

http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/1/16/Prem-Redknapp-press-conference/gnid-35762/

the Wigan game is interesting

is the JJ current 'calf strain' the same one that sidelined him previously?

surely they are linked - it's all too coincidental otherwise

I can only assume HR didn't think he was quite ready for the 90 v Wigan - but it's a borderline call I must say

We'll probably soon find out though anyway

either JJ will be called fit by the OS and then doesn't start in either the next two games (the first game back from injury tends to be borderline)

in which case HR's statement looks 'controversial' and I think it will become quickly clear that JJ is no longer part of the 'first XI'

or perhaps we'll see a string of 'minor niggles' keeping JJ in and out of the side and it all gets confusing

I think it'll be pretty clear by say mid-Feb as to whether JJ is one of the 'if fit he plays' brigade (allowing of course for obvious rotation for games like WED)

if we make the CC final, I think that will clear up the matter more than somewhat

(though I guess WP is cup-tied?) but zoko modric hudd jj o'hara etc ain't

JJ wasn't fit enough to come on for two minutes to mark his man.

here's the quote from the setanta article linked above that probably comes close

"I've not spoken to Jose Mourinho," he added. "He never told me he wanted Jenas. I don't want to sell him.
"He's a very important player who has a calf strain but, when fit, he's one of the best midfield players in the country and I don't want to lose him.
"I need him here and I need all my players fit and well and playing well. I can't afford to lose anybody.
"One or two fringe players we'd let go who don't play in the team but the others are important for us."

not quite 'when he's fit he plays' but near enough, a clear statement that JJ is integral to our plans

However, unless someone finds the actual quote, I'll withdraw the 'when he's fit he plays' quote and stick to these for future debates

that's more than enough to refute the 'JJ is on his way' he's rubbish etc etc brigade :)

unless people don't believe what HR has to say of course

I'm choosing to believe ATM
