I really don't see the need for this signing? Makes me wonder about Toby's contract.

We have far more pressing needs.

I thought we had already agreed a new deal with Toby but are waiting until the transfer window has closed to announce it?

There are lots of deals clubs do all the time that may not be pressing needs but are deals of oppirtunity. We hear alot about Levy's involvement but I wager he only gets involved once things get to a certain stage. Up until then it is probably scouting and recruitment staff/representatives working deals.

Maybe it means there's an issue with Toby's contract. Maybe it means Toby is almost 30 and if you can inbed a potential replacement now for cheap then you should regardless of his situation.

I read some where that he can also DM, so I would see him as competition for Dier, if he signs.

Because Foyth is potentially a top class ball playing CB, and he'll be learning his trade under Poch. Remember our major competition for his signature was PSG, and they allegedly offered more before that deal evaporated and Foyth made it clear he wanted Spurs.

There was ITK that we had scouts at the U20 World Cup, and from the bits I saw and the clips online it's clear that Foyth has a high celing and is a different type of CB from CCV.

We all know there are no guarantees that young players will achieve their potential but if he gets anywhere near it, he won't be availalbe for around 8 million Euros including clauses.

If I recall was there not ITK way back in the window stating we were only likely to add 2-3 players (might change due to outgoings), unless an opportunity arose that was too good to miss out on.

Bet many thought that these opportunistic signings would be the finished article. Could it not be that our scouting team have unearthed some prospect gems in the making too good to turn down.

Hopefully stars of the future too good to turn down if you like. Foyth fits this bracket no?.

I have a feeling the announcement will be today for Foyth pending medical and work permit, as we did with Sanchez...

We have far more pressing needs.

I remember thinking that about Noughton and Walker at the time and probably also Vorm. We're always guilty of moaning we don't sign players like Dembele when we have the chance and I think Foyth, Jadon Sanchez and hopefully Sesegnon are us learning from this.

If they develop as we hope they will get cup game time and if they do better we might not be so worried about losing Toby or Jan down the line.

Dier is moving permanently into midfield, and Wimmer is going. That leaves us Toby, Jan, Sanchez and potentially CCV for 2 or often 3 slots. There is never anything wrong with signing promising young talent. It's what got us here.

Dier is competition for Wanyama.

Sanchez = Dier's replacement as top CB backup

Foyth = Wimmer's replacement

I don't think it's linear as how you wrote it

I think we'll play with 3CBs and that we'll cover those positions with Toby, Jan, Dier, Sanchez and Foyth.
I presume Sanchez and Foyth will have to adjust to the league first
