I don't think it's linear as how you wrote it

I think we'll play with 3CBs and that we'll cover those positions with Toby, Jan, Dier, Sanchez and Foyth.
I presume Sanchez and Foyth will have to adjust to the league first
Maybe - but given the ITK from earlier this summer that Dier really wants to play CM, and given that we did not use him in a back 3 Sunday (or last week) - I think Dier and Poch had a conversation about where Dier will play this season - barring a run of injuries.

I still think we will play 3 at the back occasionally - with Sanchez there when he is ready. Foyth and CCV are developing, and would be the next options, but unlikely to get any match time outside of the domestic Cups.

Dier is moving permanently into midfield, and Wimmer is going. That leaves us Toby, Jan, Sanchez and potentially CCV for 2 or often 3 slots. There is never anything wrong with signing promising young talent. It's what got us here.

No I agree, there's nothing wrong with it. I guess I just can't see us signing that many players in 10 days and I'm anxious for signings further up the pitch.

I also don't like the idea of Dier being used exclusively in midfield as I worry he is going to be shoe horned into the team and we'll see more of him and Wanyama together.

The Dier/Waynama partnership wasnt that effective on Sunday either

It has never been effective.

I honestly see this kid pushing Dier out of the backup DM role due to his technical ability and his overall athleticism. I know I have only seen a couple youtube videos, but he isn't lumbering around like Dier. He has agility, which I get slated on bringing up constantly, but this is a trait one needs in sports, especially football.

Dier has tight hips. That is why he gets turned when in defense and that is why he is slow on the ball in midfield. He just doesn't have the feet or hips of Dembele, Wanyama, Winks, or from what I have seen of this kid. Don't be surprised if this kid moves ahead at some point. It may not be this year, but I think we are messing with Dier's head in making him believe he is a DM. I also see Sanchez moving ahead of Dier in all honesty. There is one specific highlight where Sanchez is being taken on, down the flank, and the ball skirts passed him. He has to quickly turn his hips like a Cornerback does in American football and start to catch up with the player that passed him. Dier just doesn't have the hips to pull off these maneuvers and his positioning makes him vulnerable.

I by no means am saying Dier is shit, but we have all been asking for competition in the squad and I can honestly see Dier losing some positional battles.

Dier is a bit of a conundrum. He is a very important member of the squad because of his versatility and attitude.

However, the truth is as a footballer he has better players ahead of him at Spurs in all the positions he plays.

Tottenham have enquired about the possibility of bringing Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier to north London, Sky Sports News understands.

The Ligue 1 side are understood to be asking for around £23m for the Ivory Coast international right-back, who would act as a replacement for Kyle Walker.

Sky Sports News has been told the agreement of personal terms should not be a problem for the Premier League side, who are also closing on the club record £38.4m signing of central defender Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.

Aurier has played his entire professional career in France, joining PSG in the summer of 2015 after starting his career with Lens and then moving on to Toulouse.

The 24-year-old could be a victim of PSG's need to be careful about meeting UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules in the wake of their world record deal to bring Neymar to the club from Barcelona.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add a further right-back to his squad, having used Kyle Walker-Peters and Kieran Trippier in their first two Premier League games of the season.

Sky sources also understand Pochettino has renewed his interest in young Argentina defender Juan Foyth.

Foyth was a target for Tottenham earlier in the summer, although their interest had cooled as Pochettino felt his club Estudiantes wanted too hefty a transfer fee for the 19-year-old.

Reports in Argentina say Foyth has been left out of their squad to play Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana clash this week.

And Spurs remain interested in Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who has told the Goodison Park club he will not sign a new deal to replace the one which expires next summer.

Ronald Koeman expects the England international to leave the club this summer but any move has been complicated by a hamstring injury that has sidelined Barkley since preseason - no club has yet met Everton's valuation of the 23-year-old.

I think the Gazzaniga transfer has a lot to do with with this guy. I suspect Gaz is very good in the dressing room (this is not meant to be an euphemism :)).

My wife literally just said the same thing about him probably being good in the dressing room. Though I think she DID mean it to be a euphemism.

I think he may eventually end up as a DM. Admittedly there's not a lot of YouTube footage on him but what there is shows that he is an excellent quick passer of the ball with superb short to mid-range accuracy. With our high pressing style this could be a great asset in future.

This is why I'm convinced the success of this deal linked to the seeming failure of the diop deal.
