I think I was underestimating his height, and Ossie85 is right and he's probably about 6" 2 based of the Argentian U20 team photo which is great as he seemed to have everythinmg else to his game and I was just worried about his physicalisty. he will need to add bulk to thrive in the premiership, but at 19 and whith Pochs physical regime I predict he'll be a strong middleweight by the time he becomes a serious candidate to challenge Vertongen at 21. The links with gary and gilik, older players to cover wimmer in the next couple of years now make sense to me. No point investing development in a 23/24 year old defender as cover if we have a better kid a year or two from gametime imo.

And I've only seen one game and clips, but I'm super excited for this kid, and would agree whith the comment here that he and CCV could made a great classic Stopper/Sweeper partnership in an agressive high line defense.

CCV is very fast over longer distances, and this is why imo he'll be best suited to a high defensive line alowing him to get to top speed for recovering as his sheer size leaves him slower to get going over 5 yard bursts. But this powerful front foot agressive pressing off the ball/attackijng the first ball, will benefit from a partner who can drop back a couple of yards to cover him and be the point man to distribute out of defence.

Foyth seems fairly two footed from the little I've seen, most crucially as a tackler off of both feet which is a surprisingly unusual defensive atribute. He seems to have a reasonable turn of pace and bravery in the tackle. He seems inteligent on the field both as a interceptor of the ball and as a distributor. He speaks fluent English and is clearly a strong comunicator.

Very excited for him - looks a great signing...

His ability on the ball and his passing looks outstanding based on the clip of him against England U20s. I know it's such as small clip but I don't think you'd need much more to verify his ability in those aspects. I have no idea how good he is in terms of actual defending though.

To maintain the balance, based on how they lined up towards the end of the season with Toby on the right and Dier centrally.

RCB - Alderweireld, Carter-Vickers
CB/DM - Dier, Wanyama, Foyth
LCB - Vertonghen, Wimmer?

Foyth looks like he has the sort of ability on the ball to step forwards mid game to DM in the same way Dier brings that tactical flexibility. However, if Dier needs to step into DM should Wanyama be out, and Foyth isn't quite ready, we still have the option of moving Toby or Jan over, and bringing one of CCV or Wimmer in, or just going 4 at the back.

If we get him then moving from Argentina to play in the premier league is a massive ask. Such a huge jump in so many ways.

That is exactly what Tim Vickery said. I would put him at same or less level than CCV when he comes in. Only time will tell, if he is ready

Poch made Dier a DM 2 season back, mainly because
a) he didnt have a Wanyama then, to play as first choice DM
b) In Dier he saw an ability to play DM
We don't know anything about Foyth to suggest he can play in midfield. Only time will tell, if Poch sees that in him & he wants to change his position.

Tbh i'd be surprised if he features in the first team for us this season. He will need to adapt and he seems a low key signing.

I think we'll see him mostly for the U23s in the EFL trophy.

are people honestly suggesting he will have a somewhat impact on first team this season? he barely did for his own club in the Argentinean league but you think he will be ready in a Pochettino premier league outfit? okay

Dier wasn't a regular for Sporting before he came here, and has played pretty much ever since. Poch will pick those who impress him in training, always has, always will.

I'm glad we're all satisfied we've established how much he'll feature and at what level, given that we hadn't heard of him until last week.

Estudiantes are in a hurry to seal the sale of Juan Foyth to Tottenham Hotspur.

La Plata newspaper El Dia, who have been following the situation closely, comes up with updates and reasons for the transfer today.

They claim the Argentine club need money to settle their debts with the AFA, standing at 49 million pesos (US$2.9m). In case they don’t manage it, they won’t be able to make more than four signings, and the federation will also take 50% of their TV rights’ money.

That’s why Foyth’s transfer to Tottenham is so welcome. Estudiantes are set to get a fee higher than US$10m, which will be enough to pay the debts and still spend on a few more players.

According to the newspaper, club president Juan Sebastian Veron travelled to Europe last night. He took a KLM flight to Frankfurt to later go to London, where he’s set to meet Tottenham and close the deal.

We like that kind of detail, it gives us faith there’s something in this.

El Dia still mentions the chance of the transfer not be closed, or Estudiantes not getting all the money up front. That’s a doubt they hadn’t shown in their previous reports, even though the optimism is still shown.

Mauricio Pochettino and Veron played together for Argentina, and the Estudiantes president may be hoping for a favour.

Ffs, if Levy reads this article they're fucked and so is the deal in all likelihood.
