I suspect this window might drag into next summer as it's never been harder to sell players from the EPL abroad due to the lack of money from your average side on the continent.
I actually think this is the new norm unfortunately. The gap between prem and all other leagues is only going to continue to grow, this is why Juve/Barca/Madrid are desperate for the super league to happen

even though it's a great link to have, you'd have thought if we're going to drop 90m on anyone it would be gvardiol or sms.

always thought he'd end up at liverpool tbh.

Don’t forget, BVB have a buy to sell policy. It’s in their interest to talk up every player they have to try and generate a big fee. It doesn’t always work, players like Zagadou and Tigges left for tiny amounts, despite being highly rated. Bellingham is English and counts towards your home grown quota. Makes him more valuable than a French, German or other nationality.

If we had 80-90m to spend on anyone in midfield from the Bundesliga, I would take Kimmich. Sure, he has messed up views on vaccines and missed a bunch of games when he got COVID… That said he can play in multiple positions and is proven. Can you really say Bellingham is proven? Not yet in my view.

As someone who watches Bundesliga as well as EPL, I want to comment on the standard of the competition and how it flatters players like Bellingham.

In summary, aside from a few clubs (Bayern, BVB, RB Leipzig, Leverkusen, Gladbach), the standard is championship level most of the time. Sides wallop each other by huge margins. Defending is dire!

When you consider a club like Bayern, should they play in the EPL, they would likely be around the level of Chelsea or Spurs. Week in, week out, they thrash crappy opponents and give a good game to the chasing pack.

Clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt have a good, winning cup run, and simultaneously flop in the league. They are probably around the level of West Ham or Brighton. A few good players, a few excellent ones who get sold on.

BVB have a curious mix of some truly awesome players, some great youngsters and a few old heads to keep the team together. The team does ok, but it’s not really hitting it out the park at any point.

Last year, Haaland looked like he got found out by a few defences, and I wonder how well he will do in the EPL.

Past transfers from the Bundesliga haven’t always gone well. It’s a bit hit and miss. Bellingham could be like a Dele Alli signing, and go up a level right away. Or we could see an Ademola Lookman, Reece Oxford, Dodi Lukebakio or Jadon Sancho. Either not quite ready, or not quite good enough.

It’s true, some players join the EPL and come good later, like Sonny or Pulisic. These are a bit rarer though.

Having watched Bellingham a few times in the flesh, and a lot on TV… I don’t see what the fuss is about. How he positions himself off the ball is not always great, he’s not got the greatest touch, and he’s not that strong mentally. I could be wrong, but I think he looks good against less than amazing opponents, playing in a good side with players around him who do the hard work.
Obligatory highlight reel suggests he has skills to be a good fit at CM.

I understand the scepticism that he would come to us now rather than wait for Liverpool, but perhaps playing with the England captain is a draw? Here he is speaking highly of Kane as the captain in an article posted today.

A positive sure but if the options playing with Kane or playing for one of the best prem squads of all time, I'd put money on which way he leans.

And yes Pool are one of the best sides of all time as much as everyone hates them.

I like how everyone thinks it is impossible and asking for thread to close but still coming in hopeful for the unthinkable.

Yeah, and they are welcome to him to be honest. He damaged his credibility when he didn’t want to get vaccinated and promptly got sick for several games!

As for Bellingham, hell yes please.
Don't underestimate Dortmund's requirements to sell. I know some on hear appluad their policy, but it should come with the pinch of salt that Dortmund only have this policy because they ramped up a ton of debt in the past that bayern secretly dealt with for them so that Dortmund didn't go bankrupt.

Since then Dortmund have been shit scared of trying to buy their way into competing with Bayern and essentially flog off any hope they have of truly competing with BM.

I.E. Dortmund sell (doesn't mean we get Beliingham though).

I mean, none of us truly believe this is going to happen, right? I'm not just saying that in some form of reverse-psychology-jinx-hope. It's simply not in the realm of possibility. Unless it's his brother, Jobe. Who looks like he shares the exact same DNA profile of Jude and quite honestly, it's alarming. However, his name is Jobe. There's a lot to unpack here.
