Someone on here said Keane 'finished well' against Liverpool. He didn't - he finished marvellously. I am not his biggest fan, not because of his play, just because I think he restricts Defoe's chances but on this form - he's first choice.
You may get your wish sooner than you think. Keane to MU in January, apparently SAF is a convert and half the price of Berbs.Would hate to see him leave but he looks a little disillusioned at the mo, can,t blame him with the actions of some fans

Keane's suddenly become an enigma on this thread.

Just wait till he misses another 1-on-1...

Not trying to curse the team. I admire Keane. He's good at volleys and scores fabulous goals. An instinctive striker who has improved over the last few years.

I just can't stand the exaggeration you sometimes see with fans. I mean better than Rooney? geez..

Here lies the problem with the attitude of some of our fans. They seem to be waiting for a player to fail so they can say ‘told you so’ *cough* nicdic *cough*. I prefer to look foward to when things are going right and actually enjoy being a football fan.

is that so hard to believe? Stick keane in that united team and he would contribute every bit a much as rooney does.

As i said, he is so under rated. Lets not forget Keane was only 18/19 why the italians took him for big big money not dissimilar to Rooney.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:.

Nice one!! Keane to Man U!! Hahaha. Half the price of berbs! Hahaha. So man U will pay 15mill for Keane in January? Hahahaha! Brilliant!!! -That's classic!

Man U can have Defoe, but then again I doubt sir Alex "is a convert" in regards to him.

i think this is keano's year to be at the top end of the goal charts this season. he's done it in fits and starts over previous years, but this time he's started early and i hope it continues.

do you think keano's form is due to him being settled at a club he can call his own?

He certainly does appear to be settled at Spurs but journalists who say he was unsettled in the past are being deliberately provocative .

Wolves , Coventry , Leeds needed money and they knew they couldn't afford to keep him , simple as that .

He is an exceptional player with a lot of experience and desire to win . On the right day a very cool head , other days he fluffs and frustrates .

It was totally out of order for Rafa to dismis two marvelous finishes as "unbelievable errors" .

He still hasn't hit top form . We need our midfield to step up so that strikers do not have to drop back because Robbie/Defoe do their best work respectively in/around the box .

Edit : Not many players back up healthy goal tallys five seasons on the trot

2002-2003 13 goals
2003-2004 16 goals
2004-2005 17 goals
2005-2006 16 goals
2006-2007 22 goals

Ahh. The rollercoaster ride that is watching Robbie Keane play.

One minute you're plunging into the depths of despair as he does that bloody dummy again or runs aimlessly into touch, the next you're on top of the world as he smashes a 20 yard volley into the top corner.

Never has a player evoked both positive and negative emotion in me as much as Keano, part genius, part idiot, but always entertaining.

But love him or hate him, or both as I usually do, there is no arguing he has been our most consistent forward in terms of goals and assists for the last 3 or 4 seasons and that fact alone is why Jol chooses him above Defoe.

Still believe if Defoe was given the chance and trust Jol has for Keane, Defoe IMO would be a better goal scorer....que the avalanche of stats to prove otherwise.

Personally I think Defoe has been systematically destroyed by England i.e Theo Walcott and Jol playing him 20min here and there and continually substituting him...he hasn't been able IMO to play into form as Keane has been aloud to. (just my own opinion)

I still think Defoe can do a job if called upon but I don’t think you are giving Keane a chance no matter what he does.

Over the past few seasons Defoe has got as much playing time as Keane, and has been almost as productive. It's a myth that Defoe hasn't been given a chance. He needs to forget about England and work on his roll as an essential part of the Keane Defoe tag team that has been the most productive in England over the past few years:clap:. Still looking forward to another 40 goals + between them this year.

There will hopefully be again over 60 games this season we need them both staying positive and confident.

Theres no denying defoe has had playing time, but i dnt recall one of the two ever sitting out for such a long stretch whilst being fully fit, which is why it gets a lot of attention.

Jol sat Keane out last season for a long time when really he wasn't playing that badly but Defoe wasn't either. However a lot of people were really happy because they just want(ed) Defoe to play no matter how bad he was. While Defoe did score a few times, I'm sure Keane would have done so given more time and would have kick started our season at an earlier stage. We had to wait until Robbie returned in february to get the season going.

This year Jol seems to be showing some faith in Keane and it seems like we'll be able to play at our best a few months sooner than last year. Our start this season was just as bad as last but at least this year our recovery might start sooner.

was that the time when Keane was injured?

Keane has been our best forward this year (though that isnt too hard  ) i still think he looks better when playing higher up the firled, but still at times need him to drop off... just wish we had the midfield capable of creating so he didnt have to do this

Without Keane this year, we probably would be even further up shit creek without a paddle

I think you'll find that was the season before. Defoe played regularly and poorly at the start of that season and was kept in the side until the end of October, by which time his poor play had not been mitigated by his scoring goals. (From memory he scored once during that period, which was put down by his fans to that dastardly Sven who started him then substituted him in an early season international.) Keane had started coming into the side as substitute and changing the course of games for the better (as he tends to do in those situations) and then finally was started instead of Defoe. The rest, as they say, is history.

At the end of that season, Walcott was picked for the World Cup, but the player who had most cause for complaint at being excluded for that child was the top English Premiership scorer that season, rather than Defoe who had seriously under-performed for the whole season. That's Darren Bent for those with short memories. Odd that Sven is never criticised for ruining his career.

Without taking a poll myself, im sure you'd be hard pushed to find people who genuinely think a player's poor form is because he got substituted one time, or that defoes career has been ruined by sven.

Don't remember when Keane was fined by Jol after he threw a paddy because Defoe was first choice?
