The season before when he played so well, it was centrally in a back 4. The wheels came off a bit when he was played wider in a back 3, he just didn't look as comfortable. Just maybe, if as his agent states, Poch still sees something there, he can be coached into the intricacies of the LCB in a back 3. One to watch. Plenty of talk about Wimmer and Son being big mates, maybe the suggestions Ginter is being looked at, could provide another Bundesliga ally.

He has also played in the middle of the back 3 where he looked pretty comfortable.

I'd keep him but I understand if he wants to move on for more football. Maybe we will loan him out if we get another centre back in?

It sounds like he is off to me. I don't think it's that great a loss as Dier is a more than adequate backup to Verts/Toby etc plus we have CCV as emergency back-up.

Wimmer needs 1st team football this year to cement his place in the Austrian squad for the world cup, if they qualify. I'm not convinced that Posh rates him at all.

If he goes, I wish him well.

PS Victor could also do a turn at centre-back.

Poch obviously rated him last year to extent of offering a new 5 year deal. He probably wants more game time, which he may get next year. He also gives us the cover balance by being a left footer. I would try and convince him that his future is here and give him more game time.

I'd rather live in your world than mine. 2016 may have seen Spurs move to a very effective back three in which Dier was an ever-present partner to the Belgians, but Brexit, Trump and many other bad things happened. So overall, I think your parallel universe wins.

Has no trust of Poch and no place in the team. Did a few good matches but nothing really noticeable. Is miles and miles behind in the pecking order. Great time to cash in in an inflated market.

Is Austria even going to qualify for the WC - seems like a remote chance at best right now. 4 points behind Serbia and Ireland, and level with Wales. Hard to imagine Austria passing two of those teams.

This is the problem when we buy high-potential players to be back-ups. After a few years, they'll want to move. I understand Wimmer's position but it's a bit annoying. With that being said, obviously JV and Toby are getting older so his replacement shouldn't have to wait as long to get more regular football.

I liked Wimmer a lot when he covered for Jan 2 seasons ago, but I'm not sure we'll be concerned losing him. Poch seemed to choose literally anyone over Wimmer. Dier was first CB backup, and then Davies got the selection as a LB and LCB, and even CCV started making the bench over Wimmer.

Back ups have a limited shelf life if they can't break into the first team

WBA also linked. 20m doesn't seem that off after Keane went for 30 and WBA are reluctent to pay the same as demanded for Gibson. Wimmer is the cheap option for them in that market.

Honestly think who ever buys him is getting guaranteed performer at a very reasonable(in this market) fee. I love him and really think he's good enough to start for 80% of the teams in the prem. He is just unlucky being behind a resurgent Jan this season.

Things change. Poch had no interest in using him last year. Gave him a half vs City and was pulled at like half and never heard from again. Was poor in many, if not all, of his appearances. CCV was on the bench over him for like the first 2 months or so and in fact probably played better than him in their cup games. Something was quite obviously amiss last season and I think Poch would be happy to see him go. He seems hell bent on signing another CB when there seems to not be much activity on Wimmer leaving. And poch keeps praising CCV. So that would leave Wimmer as the one frozen out if we do sign another.

West Brom interested in Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer

Albion are interested in signing Kevin Wimmer this summer but are not yet willing to meet Tottenham's £20million asking price.

The 24-year-old centre-back plans to leave Spurs this summer in search of regular first-team football and would like to stay in the Premier League.

The Austrian has invited offers from other clubs and will make a decision over his future in the next few weeks.

Middlesbrough's Ben Gibson remains Tony Pulis's primary centre-back target but the England international is also interesting Spurs and Manchester City.

And so Wimmer, who grew frustrated last season when he made just five Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino's team, has emerged as a viable alternative should Gibson go elsewhere.

However, Albion do not value Wimmer that highly at the moment, and face competition for his signature from Southampton, who are also interested in the former FC Koln defender.

In today's market I think £20m is about right. I think can get something in between 15 and 20 for him.

Wish him the best of luck though as he's done great for us even when not given a run of games. He will be a very good signing for someone who will start him every week.
